Skiff Cup and RS Aero - CV de Sanguinet, Bordeaux, France, 31 Oct - 2 Nov
Thanks to Jon Mills for his summary;
The French RS Aero fleet held their season closing RS Aero Open meeting on Lake Sanguinet to the West of Bordeaux over three days from the 30th October to the 1st November, sharing the large lake with 49ers and 29ers.
Fifteen RS Aeros enjoyed three days of close racing and with talented newcomers coming into the fleet, the first eight boats were constantly changing places. Day one saw a decent but gusty and very shifty circa ten knot southerly breeze in delightful autumn sunshine. With plenty of snakes and ladders on the relatively short course, keeping to the centre upwind and avoiding mistakes were key. The PRO crammed in four races with the fleet getting back to shore as the daylight disappeared.
Day two was a repeat of day one with the exception of a decreasing breeze meaning only three races were completed.
The final day started with a very light Westerly breeze but the PRO kept the RS Aeros ashore whilst the naughty skiffs caught up with the race schedule, having completed fewer races due to concentrating on starting practice despite the best efforts of the PRO's black flag. When the RS Aeros were finally sent afloat the breeze had picked up to eight knots enabling two more races to be completed, with a windy squall on the return to the beach!
RS Aero 6 World Masters Champion Francois Le Castrec’s consistency paid off winning from Nicolas Honor with Maxime Paul in third.
The fleet took the chance to discuss the 2026 calendar which will be published shortly, coaching in the off season and how to get as many French sailors to other European events.
