Bavarian RS Aero Open - Deutscher Touring YC, Tutzing, Munich, Germany, 18/19 Oct

Intersport Thallmair Bavarian Open RS Aero 2025 gave all participants a true pleasure of sailing!
Excellent organisation, the warm atmosphere of the club and perfect weather made this regatta truly unforgettable.

The wind arrived on schedule, the blue skies came out and the sun's ray blessed all the RS Aeros who turned out on the Starnberger See near Munich. 19 RS Aero 9s and 7 RS Aero 6s had signed up to this autumn classic in Bavaria, on the edge of the German Alps, one of the largest gatherings of RS Aero 9s in the world this year! In total 6 nations were represented, making the Bavarian Open truly international this year.

From the very first start, the racing was held in a spirit of friendly competition: steady wind, bright sun between the clouds, and refreshing autumn air created ideal conditions for a perfect day on the water. The breeze continued to increase to about 14kn requiring some hard hiking upwind and promoting surfing on the increasing lake waves downwind.

Close battles were fought throughout both fleets with the challenge of joining the good pressure of the gusts and the right wind shift. Battles for the podium places were tight and continued right up to the final race.

After finishing, sailors were welcomed with hot tea, delicious food and traditional Bavarian hospitality - once again, Deutscher Touring Yacht-Club proved that it knows how to host guests with real warmth. Weary but happy sailors hit their beds, tired but elated after a wonderful October's day RS Aero racing.

Sunday arrived as per forecast, calm and with an autumnal mist rising with some beauty out of the lake. No breeze arrived so after a relaxing sociable morning we had an awards ceremony at lunchtime with final results from Saturday's 4 glorious races.
 
Special thanks go to the organisers and volunteers for their flawless work both on the water and ashore - everything ran smoothly, efficiently and with a smile.

As many participants noted, everyone left as a winner - taking home great memories, new friendships and fresh inspiration for the next season and the RS Aero European and Youth World Championships at Travemunde Woche, Germany, in 2026! The Bavarian event was supported by Intersport Thallmair in a wonderful collaboration of sporting wear supporting sailors, supporting sporting wear.

Deutscher Touring YC is one of the top sailing clubs in southern Germany on the beautiful Starnberger See, just south of Munich. It enjoys a beautiful backdrop with the Alps behind and amazing autumn colours through the forests that surround the lake. A growing fleet of about 10 RS Aeros there now enjoy this wonderful sailing spot.
