Roadford Rocket - Roadford Lake, Devon, UK, Sunday 2nd March
Sailing Southwest Winter Series

Congratulations to Luca Mitchell (Paignton SC) on winning the Roadford Rocket in his RS Aero 7! It was a great combined day for the RS Aeros with Chris Jones (Sutton Bingham) coming in 2nd in his RS Aero 9 too! But it was not all plain sailing....

The sun shone beautifully marking the start of spring in the southwest. Very light winds dominated the day but some breeze filled at times for some good close racing. The race team elected to hold two 60 minute pursuit races to be sure of getting a result. In the end they succeeded in completing both races in difficult conditions to achieve a combined score from the two results.

Thanks to Luca for his summary report;

" After a short postponement for wind to fill in, the first 1 hour pursuit race was able to start. The wind was all over the place when I started but some pressure came through to put me ahead of both K1s and I was quickly up to 3rd place. Chris Jones in his RS Aero 9 caught me up on the downwind and went on to chase the Firefly. Then the wind died which helped me close in on Chris and the Firefly. In the final minute I had inside room at the mark which got me the win in the first race.
 The 2nd pursuit race started with a bit more breeze at the start but it soon dropped. The Firefly had snuck away quickly for an early lead and the rest of the fleet were all close together. Chris and I got clear of the others and started closing down the Firefly. On the downwind Chris overtook the Firefly and kept the lead. Then on the final reach I got past Firefly to take 2nd to Chris which then overall put Chris in second and me winning the event.
 The day finished off well after successfully getting towing Zak’s car towed out of Roadford's winter mud. He had kindly lent it to me for the day. Thanks Zak, luv you bruv!
 Thanks to Sailing Southwest for running the event with hosts Roadford Lake Sailing Club."

Roadford Rocket - Roadford Lake, Devon, Sunday 2nd March
Sailing Southwest Winter Series

Enjoy a big day out in Devon at the picturesque Roadford Lake just north of the A30!

The 'Rocket' was re-established as a mass pursuit race and largely consists of dinghies of similar pace to the RS Aero, providing for a good race. The event forms part of the Southwest Sailing Winter Series .

This year the event is unique on the Sailing Southwest Winter Series in that Sailing Southwest will administer and run the event for Roadford Lake SC. The entry process is two fold -  you must first register with SW lakes and buy a day ticket including a discount code for the event. Then enter the event via the Sailing Southwest website.
