We're on!
With the Exe Estuary hiding behind the high land to windward in the SW and Storm Bert abating during the day on Sunday the Starcross Steamer in the southwest is still going ahead whilst events are cancelling nationwide.
If we do find some monstrous gusts on the race course we can be confident that the RS Aero has proven very robust to strong winds with its epoxy carbon hull and unstayed carbon mast. Its simplicity of one sail, one person and no spinaker, poles, trapezes or hydrofoils makes it sailable to be able to compete around a racecourse in extreme winds. Bring it on!
Great to see 12 RS Aeros entered in the total mixed fleet of 76!

8 RS Aeros are within the 58 boats already entered in the first day! However, the surge in entries has broken Devon's internet and entry is temporarily closed and set to re-open on 23rd. Be ready if you want to join this special event!

and it is already booking up quickly with an 80 boat limit!
The 35th running of the Exe Sails and Covers Starcross Steamer will take place on the 24th of November 2024 on the beautiful River Exe. Brought forward from its usual schedule owing to unfavourable tides in early 2025, the 150 minute pursuit race will start at 11am with the competitor briefing 1 hour beforehand.
Entries are limited to 80 boats with boats visiting from all over the country. The entries fill up quickly so please enter early to avoid potential disappointment.
The Starcross Steamer is a great day out at Starcross Sailing Club racing with 80 other mixed class dinghies on the top of the tide. This is the biggest winter sailing event in the South West, sailed on the beautiful Exe estuary.
As the race is one big pursuit race RS Aeros have their own starts and can enjoy a nice class race too,within the main event, whatever the conditions on the day.
