Chichester Harbour Race Week - Hayling Island SC, UK, 19-23 Aug, 2024
A huge turnout of 59 RS Aeros took part in Chichester Harbour Race Week at Hayling Island SC, the week before the RS Aero World Championships!
Many used the week with just 1 race a day in the harbour as a soft warm up for the Worlds, whilst others enjoyed the chilled regatta format and the ability to enter individual days as a preference to the intensity of the World Championship.
Overall the breeze was up during the week with several breezy races. Thursday's race was cancelled by gales to leave a 4 race series with 1 discard. As ever, Hayling proved a fun place to hang out for the regatta week with HISC's comfortable clubhouse, beach front location and several parties.
Ollie Holden (Hayling) tied up the RS Aero 7 Class with a day to spare with an impressive 1,2,1,2 score, ahead of runner up Tom Kennedy (Emsworth Slipper).
Visiting international Sofiia Naumenko (Ukraine) took a clean sweep in the RS Aero 6s before going on to win the RS Aero 6 Worlds the following week to add to her RS Aero 6 European Championship win. Runner up in the 6s was Richard Bentley (Felpham).
The closest contest was in the biggest RS Aero Class, the RS Aero 5s with 30 boats entered. Sarah Smith (Hayling) took a lead into the final day but it was Debbie Caldwell (Hayling) with a 2nd in the final race on Friday who took the overall win on tie break.

With no racing today due to strong winds three races have been sailed so far and it all hangs on Friday's final race showdown!

35 RS Aeros are already entered so far across the RS Aero Classes.
19 of those are in the RS Aero 5 fleet and 100% of them are women due to the number of keen RS Aero ladies at Hayling.
For those arriving early for the World Champs it could provide excellent acclimatisation!
For those without the time for a whole week at the Worlds, or wanting something more chilled, this is a great option as you can enter per day.
35 RS Aeros are already entered so far across the RS Aero Classes.

Chichester Harbour RW is one of the biggest and best dinghy regattas on the UK’s South Coast. Importantly, it is not a championship, it is a regatta, with quality racing in a relaxed atmosphere in the tidal yet sheltered waters of the harbour. So come and enjoy the bands, parties and sandy beaches then sit back and relax on Hayling Island SC’s famous balcony.
The large RS Aero fleet at HISC ensures a good turnout of 50+ RS Aeros each year.
