Congratulations to Erik Wahlberg of Sweden on his 3rd in the RS Aero 9 Worlds. Erik was Youth Olympic Downhill Ski Champion in 2020 - his strong legs for hiking his RS Aero 9 are no suprise then! Erik skis and iQFOILs cross training for his RS Aero racing, and vica-versa too.
Erik is this week's interviewed sailor in Sweden's Search Magazine Segling. Check out the interview here;

RS Aero World Championship, Hayling Island Sailing Club, UK, 26/30th August
PREVIEW
175 entries representing 18 countries are descending on Hayling Island Sailing Club for the 6th RS Aero World Championship. 14 races are scheduled over 5 days and Hayling Island, as always, promises a good variety of wind, wave and tidal conditions.
All four rig sizes RS Aero 5, 6, 7 & 9 are represented, allowing sailors from 45-100kg and aged from 14-70 years old to complete in their preferred sail size. The largest Class is the RS Aero 7 with about 72 entries. The RS Aero 5 is the next largest Class with 55 entries and achieves gender parity with a approximate 50% male/female split! In each Class the World titles will be hotly contested between a mix of previous Worlds medallists, up and coming new talent and a few new hotshots tempted into the RS Aero Class from other Classes.
The Championship will celebrate all the competing nations with a flag parade through Haying Island Sailing Club’s fine waterfront followed by the Welcome and Opening Ceremony. Throughout 2024 the RS Aero Class celebrates its 10th anniversary with ten years of impressive growth and enjoyment to sailors worldwide. A mammoth 10th anniversary cake for the 175 entries will celebrate the occasion, the sixth celebration cake at RS Aero championships this year!
The fun and action will not just be confined to the water with Hayling Island Sailing Club’s wonderful clubhouse, waterfront and fantastic parties. Already sailors are hoping to recover from Saturday’s Abba band night in time for Monday’s first race. After the opening celebrations on Sunday, the Class dinner is Tuesday. Thursday evening offers a BBQ and one of Hayling’s famous disco nights. The Championship closes with the Grand Awards Ceremony after racing on Friday 30th!
Thank you to all the supporters of the RS Aero World Championships! Rooster are supporting the prizes and have their tent onsite for any kit needs. They are supplying the RS Aero Worlds event shirts. RS Sailing are supplying a large fleet of charter RS Aeros and are providing their event support including apres sailing drinks at the tally board! Selden are supporting our daily awards and Tuesday’s apres sailing drinks at the tally board! Harken are supporting daily awards and Noble Marine are long-term supporters.
The RS Aero World Championship will support the charity Macmillan Cancer Support via the RS Bike Challenge fundraiser, with a raffle for a brand new RS Aero sail kindly provided by RS Sailing.

Thanks to RS Sailing who have kindly donated a brand new RS Aero sail for a raffle at the World Champs!
Tickets are on sale at Registration for just £10 and all the proceeds will go towards the RS Bike Challenge fundraiser in aid of the cancer charity MacMillan Cancer Support. The draw for the sail will be at Friday’s awards ceremony.

Hayling Island SC (HISC) are ramping up to lay on a fantastic RS Aero World Champs! They are resourcing two separate race courses, both with separate start and finish lines, for the 165+ RS Aeros. This will be the 2nd largest event ever in RS Aero history!
This takes a small army of volunteers and spaces are still available for filling which provides an excellent opportunity for visiting supporters to get afloat for a day or two, or even the whole week! It could be in a safety or mark laying rib, or on a finish boat. Slots that need filling are particularly Wed 28th - Fri 30th.
Additionally, if you have your own rib available too then there are great incentives if you are happy to assist.

Here is some info & detail to help you get organised...
SAIL NUMBERS
The RS Aero Class Rules are specific that sail numbers should match the hull’s sail number sticker on the transom. This common uniformity is important in our World Sailing International Class for managing our sail numbering system efficiently worldwide. Exceptions may only be made in specific circumstances when equipment is borrowed from another boat, for sustainability to save the wastage of changing numbers and then changing back.

NATIONAL FLAGS for MAINSAILS
The Class will supply a National Flag for the mainsail for each competitor at registration at GBP £5 each. Add it to the port side, just under the National Letters.
NATIONAL FLAGS
Bring your national flags to wave on a pole at the grand opening ceremony and flag parade around Hayling Island SC and its sand dunes!
TROLLEY STICKERS
These stickers match your trolley to your sail number by peeling the segments off the '8888' number to make your own sail number. These are vital when we have identical trolleys and will help someone get your trolley back to you quicker when your feet are cold at home in the winter! These can be bought for GBP £5 at registration.

We have gender parity in the RS Aero 5s and a full cross section of ages across all 4 RS Aero Classes.

Fantastic to see that the 40 strong RS Aero 5 Class is over 50% female! This will provide a fantastic womens event and gender parity there in the RS Aero 5s. And of course females won both last year's RS Aero 5 Worlds and this year's RS Aero 6 Europeans already! Following a successful RS Aero UK Womens Weekend at Lymington recently we already have a couple more female entries that have been inspired to enter the Worlds.

Charter RS Aeros have been booking up to sailors from outside Europe during their initial priority period.
Now that 31st March is past, that priority has come to an end and the remainder of charter RS Aeros are open for general booking. Have at it!

Charter RS Aeros: RS Sailing are supporting with Charter RS Aeros. These need to be prioritised to distant long-haul travellers from outside Europe who are less able to transport their own RS Aeros, for a limited period, until the end of March. After that they are open to general booking.
Rooster RS Aero Custom Kit: With Roosters support and their range of RS Aero Custom Kit we can look cool and be comfortable both on and off the water!
