Tiller extension universal joint failure
Hi,
The outer skin of the tiller extension universal joint seems to have failed. Is this just cosmetic (the underlying joint seems fine) or does it need replaced? I don't want a catastrophic failure while sailing so I'm guessing it needs replaced.
Grateful for any advice.

I would suggest to replace it. If it breaks it is quite difficult to sail upwind.
You can use special replacement, where a cord is insinde. This helps a lot in case, the rubber breaks (what will happen from time to time)

I am not sure, if you need to adapt this, I bought one here in Germany, which fitted 1:1 in the original hinge.
