Burgee Fitting

Place a one inch length of bungee in the mast fitting, then wedge the wire of the burgee in the mast fitting. It keeps it secure without tape and allows change of burgee to match sail size .(I think I read somewhere that burgee colour should match that of your sail size.)

How has this resolved itself over the last 15 months?
Is there a class legal way of attaching a simple wire burgee to the top of the mast, other than taping it with pvc tape?
Grateful for any advice on best practice.

I bent my hawk (not the 'aero' one but the longer one at right angles several times (first time was hayling nationals so it didn't do too badly). Sadly lost it last sail when the clip let go (blew away in a 30 kn gust on a reach). Although it seems a silly rule I guess you could take an old damaged hawk stalk and tape a standard burgee onto it to be legal.

Looking on the Aero parts page, found the little clip, but I cant see the RS Burgee anywhere on there. It might just be my lack of searching skills, but is it actually available?

I have never understood why it is mounted to the side rather than the front. The helms view is reduced when the indicator is on the leeward side.

Thank you for informing me. I shall have to come up with an alternative fitting as I don't want to use the Hawk style wind indicator. In my experience they are two fragile to use in shallow waters. The steel wire type that Duncan refers to can be bent back into shape many times provided that it is secured effectively.

Well, when the burgees available at just about every chandler, and many clubs, won't fit it makes it a ridiculous rule. That said, by wrapping tape around the stem of most burgees, they will slide into the existing fitting - albeit with a dubious degree of security. It's a rather inelegant solution though, and certainly not as secure as I for one would like.

I fitted a standard style Allen 4066 clip on the front of the mast. I thought about removing the other one but the hole spacing is different and I don't like them on the side of the mast.

I have only recently bought my Aero and am finding the supplied RE masthead burgee difficult to read (always seems to indicate that I am on beam reach). I would like to fit a standard type burgee (the one with a semi-circular wire at the front). Can someone advise how I can achieve this (i.e. do I need to remove the existing mast head fitting and replace it and if so, what fitting).
