Don,

I attached the righting line kit earlier this year.

In the Class Rules Page 22 Annex 1 Ropes Sizes the very bottom item is Righting Line - Recommended Length - 1.5m X 2.

I took this as the starting point, and after all the knots were tied found I didn't need to shorten or lengthen.

Don,

The righting lines need to be long enough so they can be pulled down to be near the water under their rear attachment when the RS Aero is on its side capsized (like in the test video).

The shock cord needs enough range to allow the righting lines to come down near the water when the RS Aero is on its side capsized, whilst also keeping the righting lines taught enough that they do not drag in the water whilst sailing.

Hi Don,

Yes, I think you are right;

- you only need one piece of shock cord which attaches to the righting lines on both sides, via the bow eye.

- Your righting lines will need shortening to allow space for the shock cord to be effective.

I had a similar query from the northeast USA last week and it seems the righting line packs do differ from the manual a little with the second length of shock cord provided causing some confusion.

I just picked up 2770 and am just about finished rigging it. I have an issue with the righting line kit I received with the boat. The lines and elastic are not as described in the rigging manual.

Rather than a single piece of elastic and rings as shown, there are two pieces of elastic each with a hook on the end. In addition, the lines are quite long, reaching almost to the bow eye when run through the P-clip.

If I understand the instructions in the manual correctly, there is to be a single piece of shock cord between the two righting lines. So, I would shorten the lines I received and install one piece of shock cord?
