This is covered in Class Rules C.6.1.3(c) and B.3.2. You cannot "smooth" the grip.

The cockpit floor has to be the at the level of abrasion that the manufacturer produced. Where is the specification of this please? How is this to be measured by an owner who wishes to smooth the decking area?
