As previously commented (in the wrong section) surely we should allow the fixing of an alternative burgee / wind indicator.
The burgee type that is freely available from all decent chandlers, and indeed from many clubs. There is no advantage, no gain to be had from its use over the 'hawk' style that RS supply (that appears to be out of stock atm).
As for using the original mounting holes - that's just impracticable. They don't match, nor can they easily be made to do so. Even if the effort is made, the fitting will be comparatively insecure, and likely to need constant attention.
Please can we consider allowing the obvious and much used alternative?
Hi Gareth, Yes. CR C5.1(k) allows you to use any wind indicator, including any attachment fitting, so long as you use the original holes in the mast and do not make any new ones.
The mount for a mechanical wind indication device at the top of the mast will use the Originally supplied fitting or be screwed in place using the original screw holes.
So you CAN use a different mount - like for a conventional burgee so long as you can modify that fitting to use the original holes. Correct?
