RS Aero Class Manager - Time for Change...

A note from the New Class Manager;

In 2014, on a day trip to Hayling Island SC (HISC) I met someone who said ‘Hey, do you want to come and try this new boat?’ Little did I know, this 20 minute sail would be such a turning point in my life.

12 years later, after multiple World, European and National championships along the way, I am very excited to be taking on the role as RS Aero UK and International Class Manager. With the Class being in such safe hands for the last 11 years with the amazing Peter Barton, we have spent the last few months handing over. As I’ve been told a few times now, I’m very aware these are some big boots to fill.

This part time organisational role is a really exciting opportunity to continue to grow and put passion into what is (in my opinion), the most fun, friendly and rewarding dinghy class there is to be a part of, while continuing my full time role at CC.

I am working closely with all parties, RS Sailing, the UK Class, and key players internationally, to build an exciting future for this amazing boat.
For now, watch this space, and see you on the water or at an event somewhere soon, oh and Pete, how do I……

After an incredible 11 years as RS Aero Class Manager it is time for change!
Leading the RS Aero Class in the UK and Worldwide has been a wonderfully rewarding experience of shared sailing fun and interaction. It has been a huge privilege to be involved from the outset in RS Sailing’s ground breaking RS Aero.

Thanks to everyone for their support and help along the way - host clubs, volunteers, equipment suppliers, sponsors, photographers, supporters, parents and many more! RS Sailing for the opportunity and their confidence in me. Jo Richards for his vision. Most of all though, the sailors, for adding to and sharing the experience, both for fun and in competition. Thank you all, for your part in making the RS Aero Class what it is today!

Having guided the Class to grow and flourish through its early years, we are now very fortunate to have Sammy Isaacs-Johnson to take on the role. Sammy is well known within the RS Aero Class after 9 years keenly racing and coaching. He is our RS Aero 5 European Champion and UK Head Coach. We can have full confidence in Sammy leading the Class into its next chapter. I will continue assisting for a period to ensure a smooth transition.

What next for me? More RS Aero sailing of course! The RS Aero continues to be fantastic fun for all its attributes including exhilaration, simplicity and excellent racing - and having built up so many friends in the Class over the years!

Peter Barton
