Two piece masts

Hi Lawrence,
That is an interesting idea, but it is not practical in design.

The 4 lower mast sections, RS Aero 5,6,7&9, are all very different in wall thickness, stiffness and bend characteristics, as is necessary to match the sails to give the excellent sailing experience that we all enjoy. You can not achieve that with varying the top section alone.

It takes 3 minutes to rig an RS Aero and a further 3 minutes if you need to change your rig over. Not such a big deal!

See you next month in Blairgowrie!   https://bys.asn.au/salty-dingo-rs-aero-australian-championships-2026/

...Here is a golden oldie video 'RS Aero Spotlight: Sails' from the launch of the RS Aero 11 years ago starring designer Jo Richards, Tracey, little Liam and myself, as the first 3 production RS Aeros hit the water in June 2014.

Hi all,
I have an Aero with set ups for 5, 6 and 7 sails. Each time I change size I need to change the lower mast section and also all the rigging that is connected (ropes for outhaul, vang, etc.). It would be much, much easier if the upper mast section was replaced instead, as it has no ropes connected, other than the uphaul, which could be fitted to each upper mast section. Does anyone know if this has ever been considered? Cheers.
