RS Aero Cycle Challenge - for Macmillan Cancer Support

Thursday 12th - Richard Frost update;
It's been an amazing couple of days so far. Sure, our legs are tired and we're sore I placed we'd rather not talk about, but the experience so far has been rather humbling. We set off expecting to be the pariahs of the road, so to get nothing but waves, friendly toots and shouts of encouragement has been great. Some people even pulling over to put money in the bucket. Not at all what we were expecting. Thanks to everyone for the amazing support, we couldn't and wouldn't do it without you!

Friday 13th - Ken Fowler update;
I joined the team from RS Sailing for the last day of their 200 mile charity ride towing an RS Aero (the same boat I used for my sailing adventures) to the Southampton Boat Show . It was only 45 miles of cycling for me, but seeing them drag this boat up hills and come hurtling down the other side I had total respect for their 3 day marathon of doing this.

Arrival!
They've done it!  We’re in absolute awe of the RS Team, they have raised an incredible amount of money so far for such an inspiring cause in memory of our dear Maciej! Gruelling days on the bike, through hail, 14% incline hills, rush hour traffic, lifting the RS Aero over gates, 200 miles of roads and cycle lanes - they’ve really taken it on.

Please, please, please donate anything you can to Macmillan Cancer Support! -

RS Aero Cycle Challenge - for Macmillan Cancer Support

Wednesday 11th
The RS Team set off from Coningsby, Lincolnshire, this morning, officially marking the start of the RS Aero Cycle Challenge after weeks of build-up. The chilly conditions were nothing compared to the warm send-off the riders received from family, friends and local press as they clipped into their cleats and got underway.
Riders and RS Team members Richard Frost, Will Miller, Noah Rees and Tracey Shepperd have a colossal challenge ahead of them; they are cycling from Coningsby, Lincolnshire to Southampton International Boat Show in Hampshire over the next three days, the 200-mile distance being made even more challenging by towing an RS Aero, which is a single-handed boat, between them.
They’re taking on this challenge in memory of their much-loved friend and colleague, Maciej Nowaczyk, who sadly lost his fight with cancer earlier this year. They’re raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support who help people with cancer live as full a life as possible by providing physical, financial, and emotional support.

BBC Lincolnshire captured the start of the RS Aero Cycle Challenge this morning. Listen to the full interview now with Richard Frost and the team!

RS Aero Cycle Challenge - for Macmillan Cancer Support

Tuesday 10th
And they're off!

The RS Team headed up to Coningsby, Lincolnshire, earlier today with their road bikes, an RS Aero, a custom RS Aero bike trailer, plenty of spares and a literal boot full of snacks.

They've got a colossal few days ahead, and we think they'd be lying if they didn't admit the nerves weren't gut-wrenching! The challenge, crudely written, seems simple: cycle 200 miles in three days whilst towing an RS Aero behind them, but, as we all know, the reality will be quite different.

With stages of 14% incline hills, dodging rush hour traffic, a hefty 60kgs of boat, trailer and safety equipment, blown up legs, over a thousand metres of climbing, flat tyres and considerable chaffing - it's an utterly crazy challenge. We're in awe of the team's determination coming into this, and we know they're going to carry that into the coming days.

Why are they putting themselves through this? To raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The RS Team are raising money in memory of our much-loved friend and colleague, Maciej Nowaczyk, who sadly lost his fight with cancer earlier this year.

RS Aero Cycle Challenge - SAIL RAFFLE
Fundraising in support of Macmillan Cancer Support

Thanks to RS Sailing for kindly donating a brand new RS Aero sail for a raffle at the RS Aero World Championship. All the proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support via the RS Bike Challenge fundraiser.

The raffle made an impressive £1060 for MacMillan Cancer Support. The draw for the sail (any choice of size) was at the end of week Awards Ceremony and was won by long term RS Aero 5 sailor Emily Davis whose winning ticket was drawn at the prize giving. Emily thinks she may use this opportunity of winning the new sail to arrange a whole RS Aero 6 rig for those lighter wind days!

During the RS Bike Challenge the RS Sailing team will be cycling from Coningsby, Lincolnshire, were RS Aeros have been made for the last 10 years, to the Southampton International Boat Show in Hampshire in September. The 200 mile distance will be even more challenging by towing an RS Aero between them! The Challenge is in memory of their much-loved friend and colleague, Maciej Nowaczyk, who sadly lost his fight with cancer earlier this year. Details of the bike challenge and the ability to donate are here; https://www.rssailing.com/rsaerocyclechallenge/

RS Aero Cycle Challenge
This isn’t your average charity bike ride; it’s quite literally a boatload harder!

The RS Team are taking on a crazy challenge in memory of our much-loved friend and colleague, Maciej Nowaczyk, who sadly lost his fight with cancer earlier this year.

The team will be cycling from Coningsby, Lincolnshire to Southampton International Boat Show in Hampshire, the 200 mile distance being made even more challenging by towing an RS Aero between them. Maciej was an integral part of the RS team since 2014, helping to dispatch and deliver thousands of boats around the world.

His favourite job was to deliver new boats to excited customers in the UK, visiting new places and mixing with the sailing community. So we’ve decided to ride the 200 miles in his honour, making his final delivery one to remember.

They will be fundraising in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes and this is the mantra the team will take with them as they take on the RS Aero bike ride challenge!
