Should I invest in a 5 rig for winter
I would consider the 6 rig. It is in strong winds more like a 5 and in lighter winds more like a 7. Sounds strange, but I am not alone with this experience.

More vang, more downhaul and lift the plate upwind a bit and you should have enough control.

I'm a 162 lb (74kg) 65 year old daysailor (pretend to be practicing to race.). I sail on a lake with very gusty winds. I find that a fun challenge with my 7 rig in the summer but as the weather gets cold, the gust at least feel harder and more intimidating, especially downwind.
My question is, if I switch to a 5 rig for the winter, will I feel significantly more in control or would the difference really just be in relative performance, which I don't really care about since I'm only racing myself.
