SUSTAINABILITY
Remember to rinse boats, trolleys and kit between venues, lift share where possible, use re-usable water bottles and respect the natural environment and wildlife. Check out the RS Aero Sustainability Charter and The Green Blue for more info on how to help our sport minimise impact and become more sustainable.
Sustainability Plan for the Papercourt RS Aero Open 2025
Wildlife and Habitat Protection – Our site is a SSSI. The swans, ducks and bird life who hang out here love our members and generally know how to get out of the way of boats. If you speak nicely to them they will get out of your way, but try not to separate parents from their young. Duck poo is part of life at Papercourt.
Pollution Control – Of course do not litter. As an SSSI we take a lot of care with our safety boats not overusing, spilling oil etc. While safety is paramount, our safety boats may anchor in their quiet periods if benign conditions.
Biosecurity – if you come from a club or venue with known invasive species, please take extra care to wash your boat and foils down before coming to Papercourt. If you wish to wash your boat down after sailing at Papercourt, hoses are provided at the jetty but please be mindful of water usage.
Energy – we are a solar powered clubhouse and do our best to make the clubhouse and facilities energy efficient. Avoid showering for too long. The main energy use is in travelling to the event, please share lifts where possible.
Waste Management – All our rubbish is recycled off site. Please dispose of rubbish in the marked bins. Paper – We will be paperless as far as we can. So please register online. Water Bottles - No single use plastic please. Our water tastes good, and there is a tap on the wall between the BBQ and the race board. Many believe the water from the jetty hoses to be drinkable too, but it can be a tad warm!
Catering – We will be endeavouring to make our catering as sustainable as possible using locally sourced food. Please help us in our attempts to get quantities right by entering early.
Prizes – These usually create more unwanted stuff and clutter. We are planning to give deluxe environmentally friendly prizes.
