UK SPRING CHAMPIONSHIPS - Burghfield Sailing Club, 14th April

Round 2 Thames Valley Regional Mini Series

We had an interesting initiative on the day were in the context of a light breeze and a sheltered lake, and with everyone’s agreement, the five boat RS Aero 5 fleet were all upsized to RS Aero 7s by the kind loan from other sailors who were using their RS Aero 9s. This produced better racing for all with two good sized 17 boat RS Aero Class races for both RS Aero 7s and RS Aero 9s. In fact several of these upsized sailors from the RS Aero Rooster UK Youth team were reaping the rewards of their winter training with youths 1,2,4 & 5th in the in the RS Aero 7 class and a 5th in the 9s!
Ultimately it is not about supporting a rig size but supporting 'The Sailors', and the RS Aero 5 fleet will always have its day when the wind blows or when we are at a more exposed location (we have 23 entered for the Worlds already!).
Sure, light wind training in the right rig when preparing for a champs is important too, but there are plenty of other opportunities for that and this initiative allowed a good opportunity of learning a new rig and racing a larger fleet.

29 RS Aeros (so far) is a new record at Burghfield!
Up to 6 short races are planned and our PRO Ian Bullock is well versed at keeping the action rolling. Class racing is planned.
Still 24 hours to catch the early entry discount before midnight Wednesday!

RS Aero UK Spring Champs Burghfield Sailing Club
Saturday 14th April
Spring is one its way very soon now (!) and the RS Aero Spring Champs are the 1st event of the RS Aero UK Southern Circuit which for 2018 has evolved from being a collection of all the smaller events to be just 6 main premier events, one a month in the spring and autumn.
Additionally, also new for 2018, is the regional RS Aero Thames Valley Mini Series for which this event is Round 2, after Island Barn last month. Full details of events and circuits on the UK Event List.
Entries are rolling in and Class racing is anticipated. Please sign up in advance via the link below to assist BSC in resourcing catering and safety.
