Linkoping GP2 - Linkopings Jolleseglarklubb (LJS), Sweden, 18/19 May 2024
Six races were scheduled for this weekend's competition, but the forecast created doubts. Saturday started with AP and when the sailors got out on the water the wind was 180 degrees from what the forecast said. The race lead got through two races before the northerly wind came through and extinguished the sailable wind.
On Sunday, the wind was significantly more stable. The race management took the chance and got through the last four races. Andreas Hellstrom was sailing leader and said this after the weekend;
"Considering the wind conditions, we are happy that we got through all six planned races. The sails have behaved themselves. We are happy with the weekend."
In RS Tera Pro, four sailors lined up. Linnea Palm (GSS) finished at the top of the podium, but it was a tight competition between all sailors. Second was Lisa Malm (LjSS), third Amalia Nicolajsen (LjSS) and fourth Sofia Westerlind Olsson (LjSS).
In the RS Aero there was a great turnout with fourteen RS Aero 5s, four RS Aero 6s and nine RS Aero 7s. The 6s and 7s started together, but had separate results.
Among the RS Aero 5s, home sailor Jonthan Hammarstrom came first, just one point ahead of Theo Eriksson (LESS). Third came Simon Persson (LBS). Elis Ekman (LJS) came fourth in the competition and here are his thoughts after the weekend;
"It went well this weekend, it was the first RS Aero competition for me. I haven't sailed that long but I still placed well. The starts weren't the best, but I thought the speed and my focus were good. I'm looking forward to RS Aero Youth Worlds in Sweden this summer."
In the RS Aero 6 class, Gunnar Larsson drew the longest straw, but all the races were extremely tight and exciting to follow.
The winner in the RS Aero 7 rig was Linus Ahlgren (LESS), who only counted nails;
"It was difficult conditions, but it went well. It was good that there was light wind, I'm good in light wind. I come from Aspen. Then it was warm."
Second was Erik Wahlberg (GSS) and third was Tobias Thelfer (SSKA).
In a new initiative this year Elisa Lindskog joined the event as the Junior Developer coach, focusing on assisting the younger sailors in their build up to the
