The dust has now settled on our awesome RS Aero UK National Championships that we were so fortunate to have, with happy memories, exercise and sunshine as summer draws to a close.

FAMILY FORTUNES and TOP CLUB CHAMPS
at the RS AERO UK NATIONALS at EASTBOURNE
Only 2 days to go now to the 2020 UK Nationals and we have over 100 sailors signed up for a bumper weekend on the East Sussex Riviera.
Parent/offspring seasoned campaigners Team Rolfe will have a battle on their hands from new teams Rush and the sibling teams of Hall, Leeson and Blaker, whilst also never ruling out the young Hire speedsters. Two family teams, Bailey and Pye are hedging their bets with teams of 3, allowing the luxury of a discard!
The Top Club Champs requires combined results of the best three members from the same club, added to produce Top Club scoreboard.
Going into the champs 11 Clubs have teams of 3+ which strong showings for Burghfield SC, Draycote WSC and Hayling ISC, plus a whopping team of 13 sailors from Lymington Town SC. Other Clubs to watch out for are Broadwater SC, Felpham SC, Grafham Water SC, Great Moor SC, Island Barn RSC, Royal Lymington YC and Warsash SC.

- Eastbourne....probably one of the best bits of water in the UK
- Help each other whilst launching and up the beach, whilst maintaining social distancing. It is possible to achieve 2m social distancing with 5 people around an RS Aero, although you will likely only ever need 2 or 3.
- Hot Trolleying - take whichever trolley is available when you come ashore and we will sort it out on the last day. Trolley sail number stickers are available from PB.

Covid-19 Control Measures

It is imperative that no element of our Championships breaches any safety guidance in place. It is absolutely vital that you read these and give consideration to them before leaving home for Eastbourne as strict adherence is a condition of participation in this championship.

Evening Meals
Competitors need to book the evening meals that they require in advance please. That includes the one included with each competitor's entry, which can be allocated to any night you choose and not just limited to Saturday as originally suggested. Please can you make your bookings ASAP so that the club has as much notice as possible.

- All competitors get one free meal but they must book it, for the night they would like to use their ticket together with other additional tickets already paid for.
- Competitors need to book all other evenings from this link.
- For friends and family etc I'm afraid we are going to need each name to book separately, however, they can use the same e-mail address on the form, to link them to friends and family.
- Once ESSC have hit the limit for each evening of 80, they will close off the menu options with a 'Sold Out'.
- Pay for additional meals not included or already paid for when you arrive at Registration.
- Meals will be served in 2 sittings and also spread between 2 seating areas, 1 inside and 1 out.

Packing List
RS are on-site supporting us, but due to Covid limitations are offering a limited service. Please see their statement here regards their service and advice for your self preparation;

Face coverings are required inside the club, please bring your own. Bring your personal hand sanitiser and/or antibacterial hand wash.
Changing rooms and showers are not available during event. Please be prepared to change outdoors (towelling robes are recommended!) or at your accommodation.
Card payment will be required in the clubhouse for food, drink, registration etc.
A 2 metre stick with something smelly on the end to maintain distancing!

During our Championship we are the guests of Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club. They have been incredibly generous in their huge effort as hosts to welcome the RS Aero Class by producing a detailed robust plan to enable them to put on our championship. Many other clubs have faltered under similar challenges. We are in an exceptional season and the way we are used to operating is now limited for general safety. Please be sure to read, listen to and follow all guidance, signage and requests with a courteous smile.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS by Andy Jeffries, ESSC
as emailed to all competitors
Please note the instructions below that will help competitors on their arrival at ESSC. It's all very easy and straightforward;
- On arrival at ESSC, you will be met by a car park marshal, he will hand you a free car park ticket. He will then ask you to park your car and boat and go and register.
- Registration will be conducted at the front of the clubhouse on the patio from Thursday Noon till 7.00pm and on Friday 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be sanitiser stations in place for both your and the registration volunteer's safety.
- At registration, you will be given a boat birth number (which is also your tally number) and a wrist band, to show which colour group you'll be in for the championship.
- Once you have registered, you may go and collect your boat, park it in the correct place on the beach plan and then park your car in the Championship car park, please note, this is not the one directly behind the clubhouse. You will also be able to use the external toilet facilities located at the rear of the club, using your wrist band to show you are a competitor and not a member of the public. If you have family and friends with you, ask for extra wrist bands, these are mandatory for all guests over the duration of the event.
- We are more than happy to serve you refreshments from the club galley or bar but you will be required to wear a face covering whilst inside the club and use the social distancing guidance.
- We are really looking forward to seeing you at ESSC, please enjoy your time with us, you're our guests and we want you to have a great time. There are, of course, some differences we all have to deal with in daily life but these shouldn't be too hard to follow.
PS, the traffic on the A27 into Eastbourne is pretty congested right now, with some engineering works. At the Polegate junction, follow the signs to the town centre, once your SatNav recalculates you will find ESSC, via Kings Drive.

That was intense! Online Entry both opened and closed last night with 100 entries received in less than 4 hours on a Friday evening, selling out just before midnight!

Payment Confirmation
Bank Transfers need payment confirming manually on the entry list and it will be Monday before they show paid (green). Paypal payments automatically show paid, unless there was some discontinuity in the process in which case I will pick them up manually. If I cant find a payment by Monday I will let the competitor know

ACCOMMODATION - Eastbourne has an abundance of seaside holiday accommodation. It may be worth seeking accommodation close to the Club for your changing and shower facilities. A list of 150 accommodations within about 2 miles of the club can be found via booking,com HERE.
MASTERS (55+) - Following previous feedback, only the first 2 races of each day will count towards the Master's title.
CHARTERS - Are in short supply this year. The price is £400 and they can be booked with RS Sailing by emailing Lucy Jameson; [email protected]
CLASS MEMBERSHIP - UK RS Aero sailors need to be members of the UK Class Association. International visitors need to be a member of their national RS Aero Class Association or if one does not exist yet they can join the International Class Association. JOIN HERE
GUEST SOCIAL TICKETS - The Commodore's Reception and one Saturday Dinner Ticket is already included in the Entry Fee for each competitor. Extra Saturday Dinner tickets for guests may be bought during your online entry.
A full catering and meal service will be available at ESSC throughout the event.
ON THE WATER JURY - We are delighted to have National Juror, David Battye, joining the Class again for his third RS Aero UK Nationals. His presence helps keep our racing fair and enjoyable, whilst also educating the fleet as to rules and kinetic limitations during the event.

KEY POINTS
- We will drop the 'European' title. Although the quarantine for international visitors is set to largely be gone by then it still effects a few key European nations. We will be delighted to have international visitors attend, but we felt this summer that an international championship is a little too ambitious.
- Entries limited to 100 RS Aeros, accepted in order of valid entry.
- Racing now 4 days - Fri 28th to Mon 31st (Monday is the UK bank holiday!)
- We are not limited by numbers of RS Aeros whilst afloat.
- Ashore the overall fleet will be divided for launching, food service, RS Chillaxation Zone seating etc. to adhere the gathering restrictions and stay safely distanced and hygienic
- Club changing rooms will not be available so for that there is your accommodation, the large beach or by you car. Fresh water rinse downs are available by hose. Get your changing robe ordered now - this is set to be an outdoorsy championship! There will be well managed toilet facilities.
- Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club, the RS Aero Class and RS Sailing are committed to working out a top plan together for excellent racing and as comfortable and social a time ashore as possible!
- Expect an outdoors RS Cool Hub, like the RS Games!
- Watch out for online entry opening on the RS Aero website during the next day or so - BE READY!

UK National Championship 2020

*UPDATE*
Eastbourne Sovereign SC have been working hard forming a plan to run our European Championships in the current climate. We anticipate a final ESSC decision by next weekend and we are optimistic. We hope to then be able to open Online Entry with restricted entry numbers soon afterwards.
- Eastbourne Sovereign SC, the RS Aero Class and RS Sailing are all keen to make this champs a success, if at all possible.
- The Championship schedule will be 4 days championship racing from Friday 28th - Monday 31st and a practice race on the afternoon of Thursday 27th.
- Entry numbers will be restricted, the restricted number may change later if required.
- This will be a very 'outdoorsy' championship. Eastbourne have a large beach available, together with an additional area if necessary. The 'RS Cool Zone' outdoor chillaxation area behind the club is in design!
- We can anticipate no club changing facilities - instead hose pipe rinses, car park and beach changing or at your nearby accommodation.
- We are reliant on COVID restrictions easing further in order for the event to be run, and remain optimistic.
- We expect the 14 day quarantine for International visitors may end before the champs, otherwise we will drop the 'European' part of the event title.
- Please be aware that plans could change at any time with government restrictions.

Thurs 27 - Mon 31 Aug Further to consultation with the UK Committee, the European nations' fleet leaders and Eastbourne SSC we are pleased to announce that the UK Nationals at Eastbourne will be upgraded to be the RS Aero European and UK National Championship combined. The proposal received much positive support and no objections. Teams from Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Holland, Estonia and Portugal have already expressed an interest, which will add a vibrant international flavour to the Eastbourne Champs.
After such a fantastic European Champs last year at Garda, so many sailors were keen for another. However, with the USA Worlds and UK Nationals already in peak summer and so many other popular key events filling the calendar there was no space to fit an additional dedicated Europeans.
Upgrading the Eastbourne Championship became an obvious option and the UK Nationals shall now be held within the European Championship. The Championship will now include championship racing on all of the 5 scheduled days over the Bank Holiday from 27-31 Aug on Eastbourne's excellent open water racecourse.
Eastbourne Sovereign SC are hugely excited and look forward to welcoming the RS Aero Class including our international visitors in August. They are gearing up, preparing for super large numbers and confident of delivering a memorable Championship!
Online Entry and the Notice of Race will be available in March.
