HIGHCLIFFE SC ICICLE
Christchurch Harbour, UK

The final of the series of four day's racing for the Highcliffe Icicle took place on Sunday. Whilst seven RS Aeros had already joined the series none were out on Sunday with the RYA Dinghy Show drawing sailors attentions that weekend.

Fortunately the RS Aero 7 of Peter Barton had already done enough to take the series in the first 3 rounds with a string of 1,2s. The mixed class fleet was near exclusively single handers and with a predominance of RS Aeros, Finns & Lasers the fleet enjoyed good PY racing in similar type classes. RS Aero, Finn and Laser variants did in fact take the top 20 places from 51 entries!

RS Aero sailors came from Highcliffe, Mudeford, Christchurch, Lymington and Lee on Solent to compete, with Chichester Harbour providing a superb protected race area at the top of the tide in the winter.

HIGHCLIFFE SC ICICLE
Christchurch Harbour, UK
Day 3 - 18th Feb

The penultimate round of the Highcliffe Icicle Series saw some rest from the previous strong winds.

The RS Aero 7s were kept sharp with the challenge of keeping their wind clear amongst the larger sails of 10 Finns on the skewed beat, against to onset of the ebb, up towards Hengestbury Head.

HIGHCLIFFE SC ICICLE -Christchurch Harbour, UK
Day 2 - 4th Feb

A gusty day in a chilly breeze - but nice to see some sun!

Well sailed Jack, who went large with an RS Aero 9, nailing the start to lead the fleet on his first time out in an RS Aero.

HIGHCLIFFE ICICLE - Sun 21 Jan
'Aero Army'? I like that, but we come in peace!

Over 20 mixed class dinghies, predominantly well matched single handers, had a great blast around Christchurch Harbour from Highcliffe SC on the top of the tide.

The Radials and 4.7s held their own mixing it with the RS Aero 7s on corrected PY timings. The breeze was up on the first day of the series and several RS Aeros and Lasers may have committed to their smaller sail size where they had an option. In the gusty marginal planning conditions and on a square shaped course is was the RS Aero 7s who had a good edge over the heavier Finns, being quick to accelerate and pop onto the plane. The larger canvassed Finns may yet make their points back on any lighter days to come.

All considered - I reflected on the day that I do think we are all improving generally! We do a lot of events and training as a fleet. Nigel, Karl and I had an impromptu practice the afternoon before at Lymington with Liam assisting. Karl is looking on great form now to take on the mighty USA at their Midwinters in Florida this weekend. Nigel was flying in both races too with Fernando not far behind.

There are 3 more days' racing in the Icicle series, alternate Sundays on 4 & 18 Feb & 4 March.

ICICLE SERIES - Highcliffe SC, Sunday 21st Jan
Racing on Christchurch Harbour for 4 alternate winter Sundays
2 races a day, £1 entry, 11:00 start.

The tide is good on the 21st with a big high half way through racing. A good mix of single handers including Finns, Lasers and RS Aeros makes for some close well matched PY racing!
