Thanks Peter  I agree with your points.
maybe clubs need to set and list a entry cut off date or have a minimum entry level to make it worthwhile and list the number so it's not a surprise near the time.

can't get to Paignton but intend to to go the events in Feb and March. Also Lymington in June is on our Club Calendar.

Hi Mark,
I fully agree - two events this autumn could have happened if they hadn't been cancelled. However, two UK opens this autumn is not a trend. Events may be, and have been, cancelled for a variety of reasons by the hosts.

It certainly does not help host clubs with volunteer and catering resources if competitors enter at the last minute leaving the entry list small until late. The RS Aero Class ought to suffer from forecast based entry decisions less than other classes, as the option to increase or decrease rig sizes enables fun and good racing to still be possible in both extremes of the wind range. If numbers are low to class race we can still have a good combined handicap racing fleet.
It is also important for host clubs to consult the Class prior to considering a cancellation, so that it may be considered, managed and communicated appropriately.

Go to Paignton Christmas Cracker on 3rd Dec instead? See you there if you do.

Peter

Hi Peter
whilst I understand clubs need to plan ahead to cover the logistics and cost of running an Open event , there does appear to be a trend of cancelling events a week or more before the event. As sailing is a very weather related sport I think a lot of potential participants will wait until midweek to register before deciding to travel and commit. I feel some events could have happened if they hadn't been cancelled so soon.
