Simon G,

I had a similar need some years ago.

Then I also skiied, and found the annual multi-trip travel insurance offered by the Ski Club of Great Britain also covered a sailing holiday; including racing.  The only restriction / caveat being that I wasn't doing it professionally.  I think I managed that.

A son found similar extensions of cover with the British Mountaineering Club's annual policy.

These were some years ago; so may have changed.

The RYA also have an insurance partner, Bishop Skinner Marine, who apart from covering the majority of yachting and boating activities also offer related travel insurance.  You might have to call them to get a policy tailored to your specific needs.

Several travel insurers I have got quotes from do offer policy extensions that cover sporting activities, and include 3rd party liability.

When I was looking I didn't find any that could beat the Ski Club for quality of cover at the price.

I hope this helps.

Simon G,
I would expect to find that third party liability cover to be within the boat insurance, provided by the charter boat owner.

Any recommendations for a UK-based overseas travel insurance policy that includes cover for dinghy racing?
Many seem to cover dinghy sailing, but not racing.  I found one that includes racing, but excludes liability cover, so if you charter a boat then I think it wouldn't meet the usual regatta entry requirements to have £2m+ third party liability cover.  (travelling with your own boat is fine because covered by the usual boat insurance).
Can anyone recommend travel policies they use which provide cover for our sport?
Thanks :)
