German RS Aero 7 National Championship - Steinhude, Germany, 9/11June
A small excursion in the RS Aero 7 to the German Open 2023 at the Baltic Sailing Association Steinhude e. V. on the Steinhuder Meer from 9-11th June, 2023 -
Thanks to Sandra Dosedahl for her report;I was already able to test the RS Aero 7 at a regatta in 2021; I already knew the boat a bit because my Europe group often trains with the Tegeler RS Aeros. At the Berlini Cup 2023 a week earlier I was offered the opportunity to take part in the German Open 2023 with Steve Taylor's second boat (GER 4214). In short: I was "really up for it" and quickly registered for the event.
On Friday afternoon I was warmly welcomed at the organizer's premises, a pitch for the car and tent was quickly found, and the boat was already there. Flawless! Here I met some familiar faces from the previous weekend.The first race took place in the afternoon in 25 degrees and with a very light wind. Unfortunately the wind wasn't strong enough for a race. However, at around 5:30 p.m. we had to flee from a thunderstorm to the port. All arrived safely on land. The well-known "Stegbier" awaited us in the port, optionally with an apple spritzer and a small snack. Later we were invited to dinner by the organizer. On the great site we let the evening end in a convivial atmosphere in front of a fantastic sunset backdrop.
The second day of racing started similarly in terms of wind. Since the wind was very inconsistent and dropped, only two of the four planned races could be sailed, despite all the efforts of the regatta team. After a few hours on the water in almost 30 degrees, more or less everyone was happy to be back on land and ready for a swim for a little cooling off in the water. After waiting another 1.5 hours on land to see if the wind was kind to us, the day of racing finally ended with another snack and drinks. For dinner, a delicious barbecue buffet awaited us to strengthen us for the hopefully successful next day of racing. The wind forecast for Sunday looked a little better.
After a early lunch the wind picked up significantly in the afternoon. So it was possible to sail four more races on the last day. In the end we had six races in the box after this beautiful, sometimes challenging day of racing for me. Juliane Barthel (GER 3273) was able to win with excellent results (2-1-1-1-(4)-1 = 6) ahead of Eric Rieve (GER 3370) (3-3-2-(10)-1-3 = 12) and me (GBR 2743) (6-5-7-3-2-(12) = 23). Many thanks to the team of the Baltic Sailing Association Steinhude for an all-round successful weekend, great organization, super coordination on land and on the water as well as all the participants I was able to get to know and who supported me with advice and action. I was happy to accept the slight sunburn, a small heat collapse and a few injuries on my knees and elbows for this weekend. In particular, I would like to thank the RS Aero Team from Berlin-Tegel for the friendly support and the "supervised sailing". I felt super comfortable with you guys and I think it won't be the last time I'll get on an RS Aero.

Kleiner Ausflug in den Aero 7 zur German Open 2023 bei der Baltischen Segler Vereinigung Steinhude e. V. auf dem Steinhuder Meer vom 9. bis 11. Juni 2023
Ein Bericht von Sandra Dosedahl
Den Aero 7 durfte ich bereits 2021 zu einer Regatta testen; ich kannte das Boot auch schon etwas, da meine Europe-Gruppe öfter zusammen mit den Tegeler Aeros trainiert. Zum Berlini- Cup 2023 bekam ich dann das Angebot, mit dem Zweitschiff von Steve Taylor (GER 4214) an der German Open 2023 teilzunehmen. Kurzgesagt: ich hatte „richtig Bock drauf“ und meldete mich noch schnell zur Veranstaltung an. Am Freitagmittag wurde ich auf dem Gelände des Ausrichters herzlich empfangen, ein Stellplatz für Auto und Zelt war schnell gefunden, das Boot war auch schon vor Ort. Einwandfrei! Hier traf ich auch schon einige bekannte Gesichter vom Vorwochenende.
Nachmittags sollte schon der erste Wettfahrtlauf stattfinden. Bei rund 25 Grad und sehr leichtem Wind liefen wir aus. Leider reichte der Wind für eine Wettfahrt nicht aus. Jedoch mussten wir gegen 17:30 Uhr vor einem Gewitter in den Hafen fliehen. Alle kamen heil an Land an. Im Hafen erwartete uns schon das altbekannte „Stegbier“ wahlweise Apfelschorle sowie ein kleiner Stärkungssnack. Später wurden wir vom Veranstalter zum Essen eingeladen. Auf dem tollen Gelände ließen wir den Abend in geselliger Runde vor einer traumhaften Sonnenuntergangkulisse ausklingen. Der zweite Wettfahrttag startete windtechnisch leider ähnlich. Da der Wind sehr inkonstant war und immer wieder abflaute, konnten trotz aller Bemühungen des Regattateams von den vier geplanten Wettfahrten nur zwei ausgesegelt werden. Nach fünf leicht zermürbenden Stunden auf dem Wasser bei fast 30 Grad, waren mehr oder weniger alle froh, wieder an Land zu sein. Derdie eine oder andere nutzte die Zeit
für eine kleine Abkühlung im Wasser. Nachdem wir noch etwa 1,5 Stunden an Land abwarteten, ob der Wind gnädig mit uns ist, wurde der Wettfahrttag letztendlich mit einem weiteren Snack sowie Getränken beendet. Zum Abendessen erwartete uns ein leckeres Grillbuffet zur Stärkung für den hoffentlich erfolgreichen nächsten Wettfahrttag. Die Windprognose für Sonntag sah anfangs etwas besser aus, als an den beiden Vortagen, der
Wind ließ uns aber leider bis mittags doch öfter im Stich, bis er nachmittags deutlich auffrischte. So war es möglich, am letzten Tag noch vier Rennen auszusegeln. Schlussendlich hatten wir nach diesem schönen, teilweise für mich anspruchsvollem, Wettfahrttag sechs Läufe im Kasten. Juliane Barthel (GER 3273) konnte den Sieg mit hervorragenden Ergebnissen (2-1-1-1-(4)-1 = 6) vor Eric Rieve (GER 3370) (3-3-2-(10)-1-3 = 12) und mir (GBR 2743) (6-5-7-3-2-(12) = 23) klar für sich entscheiden. Vielen Dank an das Team der Baltische Segler Vereinigung Steinhude e. V. für ein rundum gelungenes Wochenende, eine tolle Organisation, super Koordination an Land und auf dem
Wasser sowie allen Teilnehmern, die ich kennenlernen durfte und die mir mit Rat und Tat zur Seite standen. Den leichten Sonnenbrand, einen kleinen Hitzekollaps und ein paar Blessuren an Knien und Ellenbogen habe ich für dieses Wochenende gerne in Kauf genommen. Insbesondere danke ich dem Aero-Team Berlin-Tegel für den freundschaftlichen Support und das „betreute Segeln“. Ich habe mich super wohl bei euch gefühlt und denke, dass es nicht das letzte Mal gewesen ist, dass ich auf einen Aero steige.
