Giesbeek Netherlands
25th July
Great to see racing start again in the Netherlands! Thanks to
RS Aero NL for their summary report of a breezy day at Giesbeek...
On Saturday, July 25, 2020 we were welcome at WSV Giesbeek and we sailed our first game of 2020! The 2 day July Regatta was scaled down to 1 day with 5 RS Aeros on our start line. Johan Guillemyn travelled all the way from Leuven, Belgium (213km!); so it was an International event too!
The circumstances were very changeable from sun, rain, little to moderate / powerful wind between 8 kts - > 20 kts in the showers. There were two starts, first the Solos and second the RS Aeros with the Lasers.
At all 5 races a triangle-loop-triangle track were sailed. During Race 1 we started in a shower with strong breeze and big wind gusts. Johan had chosen the RS Aero 5 because of the wind, the RS Aero 7s were already running out at the first curve. Race 2 saw Gerard and Arwin lead, but during a gust of wind, Arwin went flat for a while and Jan and Hans passed him. After a nice come-back, Arwin managed to stay ahead of Jan and Hans for a while, but with the last triangle Jan and Arwin managed to catch up with a nice second place.
At Race 3 and 4 it was varied with breeze and although there was quite a fight in the middle of space 2-3-4, the position ended up quite the same.
Personally it became clear during the last race that we were out of training these past few months, so: more sailing!! After the end, we had a nice drink on the beautiful terrace of this friendly club at a safe distance. The results were announced and the prizes awarded.
Once again and very successful game at WSV Giesbeek!
