Italian Open National Circuit 3,
Tognazzi Marine Village,
Rome, Italy
10/11th October

Twenty-one RS Aeros on the start on the coast off Rome for the final leg of the Italian Open RS Aero Circuit. Visiting RS Aeros travelled from as far afield as  Switzerland and France to join the rapidly growing Italian fleet.

For the president of the Roman sailing club and new Italian RS Aero Class, Guido Sirolli, it was a demanding regatta from an organisational point of view, but full of satisfactions:
"We have been working for a year to launch this boat on the national territory and now we are beginning to appreciate its first fruits. Seeing young athletes in the water with a 5m2 sail next to boats with larger sails means that the message has passed that the RS Aero is a fun racing dinghy, easy to manage, suitable for children as well as adults. The adhesion of the Circolo Vela Arco and the Rimini Nautical Club testifies to the desire to grow and this is our goal for 2021, in the hope that the (pandemic) situation can return to normal”.

Circolo Vela Arco - Italian Open National Circuit 1
Torbole, Lago Di Garda, Italy
RS Aero and 29er in Arco

A windy weekend for the RS Aero and 29er event held at the Circolo Vela Arco in very variable weather conditions and consequently not with the usual wind that Garda Trentino has accustomed all sailors. In any case, the Regatta Committee managed to do everything possible using the few moments of sufficiently stable wind with just one race.

Racing in the RS Aero Class is suitable for those looking for an alternative to current single handers in Italy. The young Filippo Michelotto, fifth overall and first under 18. Filippo comes from the Open Skiff activity with the CV Arco team. Winner of the only race was Marco Avolio (Tognazzi Marine Village) followed by clubmates Carlo Valeri and Giulio Sirolli. First female Italian place was Lucilla Less.

5 countries competed in the RS Aero event!

On the Saturday night the new Italian RS Aero Class was formed at the Circle Vela Arco in the presence of many national and federal sailing authorities.

Next Up - on the Italian Open National Circuit are events at Tognazzi Marine Village, near Rome, on 3/4th and 10/11th October 2020

  2. Roma Lido di Ostia, Tognazzi Marine Village, 3/4th October 2020
  3. Roma Lido di Ostia, Tognazzi Marine Village, 10/11th October 2020

The final Ranking for a boat in the 2020 National Open RS Aero Italian Circuit will be the sum of the final positions in her best 2 Rounds out of 3. A boat’s final position in a single Round will be as stated in the Round's final results provided by Local Organizing Authorities. The Prize Giving of the Circuit will take place during the Prize Giving of the third Regatta.

Charter RS Aero service will be managed for the regattas. Please contact Aldo Rinaldi, RS Sailing Italy, Boattech +39.335.6699676, email: [email protected]

Perhaps a trip to Lake Garda would be good consolation to anyone missing out on the UK Nationals!
