Irish RS Aero Open
The Irish National Sailing School
Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland
24/25 October

Sadly not this year, but we certainly did everything we could to keep the possibility open with three dates. We can look forward to the craic of a large Irish Open with the possibility of international visitors
in easier times.

*CANCELLED*
10th Oct update from Brendan Foley, RS Aero Irish Class;

'We tried! Hi Everyone, hope you are enjoying the sunshine and fresh breeze. As you can imagine the current L3 in the Republic of Ireland means that we cannot run any racing. Speaking to Kenny the event host and Mark Gavin Treasurer, we have decided to cancel the upcoming Irish Open on 24/25th October. Given that numbers also appear to be on the rise in ROI and NI we think it's unlikely that racing will happen this side of Christmas. Our intention is to run the Open in March and we'll be in contact with a date for that soon.'

Irish RS Aero Open
Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland
19/20 Sept

*Foreign Visitors*
Currently, anyone arriving into Ireland from counties not on the Irish Covid-19 'Green List' (currently effecting the mainland UK, but not Northern Ireland) are requested to restrict their movements for 14-days. The request to restrict your movement means:
  • do not use public transport if possible. If you have no option but to use public transport, you must wear a face covering
  • do not visit others
  • do not meet face-to-face with anyone who is at higher risk from COVID-19
  • do not go to the shop unless absolutely necessary. If you have no option but to go to the shop, you must wear a face covering
Info Links;
https://dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/coronavirus/

We have consulted the national authority, Irish Sailing, for their guidance and interpretation on the current 'request to restrict movements' in relation to our single handed sailing regatta. Irish Sailing advise that; 'unless foreign competitors from those countries not on the Green List are able to restrict their movements for 14 days prior to the event, we would suggest they shouldn’t travel'.

The Green List is updated every 14 days by the Irish Government and the restrictions and advice can evolve, either for better or worse, quickly. Therefore UK mainland sailors might leave revisiting a decision of whether to compete until September, after the UK Nationals and much nearer the time.
Ferry booking should still be possible until close to the event. Also, Stena Line ferries have the a Flexi booking option which for an extra £15 allows cancellation with a full refund and only a £3 charge (each way).

The Irish Open is ON!

Hosted by The Irish National Sailing & Powerboat School (INSS), the RS Dealer of southern Ireland, with whose support there will be no entry fee! Sailing on Dublin Bay from Dun Laoghaire harbour there should be some excellent racing for the emerging home fleet and keen travellers.

Charter RS Aeros - INSS and RS Sailing will support the event with a charter fleet. Charter RS Aeros are available primarily to promote the new Irish RS Aero fleet and priority will therefore be given to first time Irish charters.

RS Aero Transport - Limited availability exists for transportation of owner's RS Aeros from Southern UK

Irish RS Aero Open
Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland
19/20 Sept 2020 - Re-scheduled

*GOOD NEWS!* following a Zoom meeting over a Guinness this week the Irish RS Aero Open is re-sheduled for 19/20th Sept from the original May date.

Going that late in the season may provide some optimism and this also fits well with their local calendar of an RS Aero event in Ireland once a month Jul-Aug-Sept now. Obviously there remains uncertainty and speculation, but for now we have a plan again...
