RS Aero End of Season Champs
Draycote, UK
9/10th Nov

Supported by Rooster

Sixty RS Aeros turned up for the UK Class’ End of Seasons Champs at Draycote to celebrate the end of a successful year and to mark the start of the new winter season.

Saturday started with a quick pre event coaching briefing to help prepare the new and rapidly expanding RS Aero fleet at Draycote to be ready to race. Medium breezes provided excellent racing although the first bite of winter was felt and sailors wrapped up warm for the 7 race series. A very welcome Aero Hot Chocolate was provided at registration together with Aero bars to take afloat - perfect for a chilly weekend!

A wonderful touch for Remembrance Sunday was RS Aero sailor, Will Gifford, playing The Last Post on his horn from the committee boat after Sunday’s first race. The fleet came to halt, observing two minutes silence to remember our fallen heroes.

Great to have 60+ RS Aeros at Draycote with medium breeze for the EoSs.
It was chilly, like summer but with an extra layer - or three!

Final Round and Prize Giving for the RS Aero UK Southern Circuit

36 RS Aero are already signed up for the End of Seasons. Will we beat the weekend record of 79 that we had at Rutland last month?!

The local RS Aero fleet at Draycote is fast approaching 20 boats now with several more joining them last month!

Local RS Aero fleet captain, Richard Pye, is looking forward to welcoming the Class to our first major event at Draycote Water SC and offers 7 good reasons to pack up you RS Aero and come and join the action;

  1. A rapid rise in home club RS Aero nautical membership has seen DWSC go from 2 boats a year ago to approaching 20 now with 3 members turning to all things Aero this month alone. Come and join us for what will be a great event. 9 club boats entered so far.
  2. There will be a warm & free welcome to all RS Aero sailors at registration - Aero hot chocolate!
  3. We will be delivering our very own Indian Summer! Well, to be precise, on Saturday evening an Indian delivery will be made to the club - bookable at registration. The fully stocked bar will be open and a large comfortable lounge awaits.
  4. On the spirit of the Class tradition of FREE PUDDIN' (legend of Steve Fraser, East Lothian), Richard Pye will provide an Aero to all evening eaters!
  5. Draycote’s very own Malcolm Lewin will be on hand on one of the days to capture images of all the thrills and spills. Malcolm is a professional photographer with a cracking portfolio from Draycote events. Forget the toothbrush and pack the hairbrush, unless like me, it’s Mr Sheen all the way!!
  6. Peter Barton will be delivering his master class RS Aero rig / sailing presentation at 10:00 Saturday for half an hour before the race briefing. What Peter doesn’t know about the RS Aero isn’t worth knowing about. It’s worth listening to even if you have sailed one for a year or more.
  7. Those holding out from entering until the forecast is known..... it’s all looking great for perfect tactical sailing conditions. Medium winds and no rain! 36 entries so far with entries coming in thick and fast now. Not bad for the inaugural EofS Champs at DWSC!
Enter before end of Wed for discounted rate - earlier would help Draycote to manage the event.

Final Round and Prize Giving for the RS Aero UK Southern Circuit

* ONLINE ENTRY IS OPEN! *

We look forward to visiting Draycote Water as a fleet for our grand season finale, the RS Aero End of Seasons on 9/10th November. This will be a sociable season closer, on Draycote's large sailing water and comfortable clubhouse.

Draycote Water is centrally located nationally and the End of Seasons will attract sailors from both the North and the South, joining their expanding local RS Aero fleet.

David Battye who has judged at our last two UK Nationals has kindly offered to attend. He will be assisting the Class with on the water judging and off the water debriefing and coaching, to help further advance our understanding of the racing rules and the limits of Rule 42 (propulsion) in particular. This will be particularly valuable to those heading off to the Worlds in Australia over New Year.

Class racing is planned with up to 7 races.
