NATIONAL SAIL FLAGS
At the Worlds everyone needs their flag on the port side, a minimum of 60mm below  the letters and from the edge of the sail. These are available from Registration at £5.

A second flag on the starboard side placed back to back with the port one is optional. We do have enough stock to sell everyone 2 if they want them! If you want more for other sails or RS Aero friends at home we can put your name on a list and sell them to you after registration closes when we know we have enough.

FREE PUDDING – Sponsors invited

In light of growing pressure to provide FREE PUDDING at all RS Aero events the RS Aero International Class Association would like to invite expressions of interest please in the sponsoring of PUDDING at RS Social Events.

This could either be provided anonymously or could be in return for promotion, advertising or association.
For example, £100 or so might buy 46 fun loving curry eating RS Aero sailors ice cream at Balti Island on Saturday. Yum! Working upwards, up to 100 hungry après sail diners at The Dorset Burger on Monday could take more filling. Part contributions gratefully received, thank you.

Contributions to a Class Association can come in many different ways and it is fundamental for everyone to get involved. Some people have time they can give. Some can help with PUDDINGS.

Contact in confidence; [email protected]

IMPORTANT INFO

RS Aero World Championship Competitors,
Thank you for your entry to the 2nd RS Aero World Championship at the RS Anniversary Games, hosted by the 2012 Olympic venue, Weymouth and Portland NSA. With over 200 RS Aeros from 16 nations now entered it is shaping up to be a fantastic event. We are expecting approaching 1,000 boats and 1,500 competitors to the overall RS Games!

Joining Instructions - Arrival and Departure Information
Address; WPNSA, Osprey Quay, Portland, DT5 1SA
The RS Games will be one of the biggest dinghy sailing events held at WPNSA. We need to carefully manage the WPNSA boat park. Please follow any instructions given upon arrival and prior to departure. A Site Plan is attached for your reference.

Arrival The Topper National Championships close on Friday 3rd August and they have exclusive use of the WPNSA until their prizegiving is completed. We anticipate some RS Aeros and RS Teras arriving on 3rd August and those who do will be placed in a holding area. It will not be possible to unload trailers and rig boats on site until the site is cleared of the majority of Toppers. All arriving RS Aeros and RS Teras will then be able to proceed to their class allocated zones.
WPNSA will be operating a one-way system through the site. Entry will be through Gate 4 and exit through Gate 6. Once on site trailers should be unhitched, or boats taken off the roof and vehicles removed immediately to the main car park. The car park is free and is located across the road from the main WPNSA site.
We envisage the Teras being located in Zones 2 – 6 with 2 boats per space and the Aeros in Zones 7 upwards. This may vary and will be confirmed upon arrival. Road trailers cannot remain in the dinghy park and will be located adjacent to the holding area or in an area of the car park.

Departure The RS Feva Class arrive for registration during the final 2 days of the RS Aero and RS Tera events and we anticipate all Fevas being on site prior to the departure of the Aeros and Teras. We request that Aeros and Teras vacate the site as soon as possible after their prize giving on Friday 10th to allow the site to be reorganised for the Feva event. Boats not leaving the site on Friday should be moved to the holding area for collection first thing on Saturday 11th

Race Documentation
The NOR is here: https://www.rsaerosailing.org/docs/674704607(1).pdf The SIs for your championship only will be available soon on the Class Documents page; https://www.rsaerosailing.org/index.asp?p=documents For sustainability reasons there will not be paper copies of these race documents in your welcome pack, only on the notice board.
Competitors aged under 18 must bring a completed Under 18 Consent Form to Registration. This is available here: https://www.rsaerosailing.org/docs/1061952307.pdf

*Please be reminded that support boats or otherwise are not permitted to have contact with a sailor when afloat, other that if flag T is hoisted to permit towing. Sailors need to carry their own provisions - drink, food and clothing etc. and you should give advance thought to that. The philosophy is avoid the increases in the cost of being competitive in an event.
The sailing instructions might provide for permitted availability for equipment spares, communications with fellow competitors, toileting and rescue assistance outside racing.

Registration & Measurement
Timings have changed since the NoR. Both are now identical;
Saturday 4th August 11:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00hrs and
Sunday 5th August 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00hrs.
Registration will be in the RS Games office and Measurement in the Measurement Area.
Be sure to check you sail number and rig size.
There will be a Race Briefing at the RS Stage at 11:00hrs on Monday 6th August.
The first race will not start before 13:00hrs on Monday 6th August.

Buddy Love
Courtesy of Karlos, we are running a Buddy System! Sailors will be allocated into small groups where experienced RS Aero sailors can help the less experienced - sharing top tips and the day’s experiences! There could be best buddy prizes too!

RS AERO INTERNATIONAL STADIUM RACING - MIXED PAIRS - Wed 8th
On Wednesday 8th, after our Championship racing, we will have an International Mixed Pairs Stadium Racing Challenge within the marina at WPNSA!

The exciting new format shall be 2 person mixed pair teams of a man & a lady, racing together in two RS Aero 7s, competing in a fleet racing qualification series . This will lead to a grand final of 3 teams (6 RS Aeros) to race for the medal positions and a chance to stand on top of the podium. The points of the male and female competitors in each team will be combined for their score in each race.

Racing will be over tight short course sprints inside the WPNSA marina where spectators can watch the action with commentary - cheering on their team whilst also celebrating Charlie Pearce’s 18th birthday!!!

Entries are limited to 10-12 teams of two people, a male and a female, and are invited from COUNTRIES. If spaces allow, extra teams may be invited (combined nations, UK Youth (U19), Juniors (U16), Masters(55+), Scotland, Wales, Cornwall…).

Teams shall be easy for the spectators to identify with national flags on their mainsails and single digit numbers on the head of their sail - black for men, blue for ladies.

Peter Saxton, the chief PRO for the whole RS Games, shall officiate and the RYA will be giving their support. Be sure to come along and cheer whilst watching the action unfold!

Please apply with proposed teams to Peter Barton, email; [email protected]

ORDER HERE  £12 for some 2000 shots!

Steve Greenwood will once again be out on the water taking his excellent photos of everyone in the RS Aero fleet at the World Championship!

This year Steve will be supplying USB memory sticks of all of his photos and this will be available at an event subsidised £12 each, with a £5 donation from each order to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. Be sure to sign up on the link below as Steve needs to pre-order enough USB memory sticks.

Here is the detail from Steve;

Thanks to help from WPNSA I will be getting afloat at Weymouth to take some photographs. Hopefully the weather will be excellent as it was in Carnac and Hayling Island last year. I will take photos ashore and afloat, and will do my level best to try and make sure I get several of each boat depending on conditions.

I am proposing a new pricing model to hopefully make life easier, and avoid lengthy uploads to and from the internet, which can be very time consuming.

After some subsidy from the event budget I am suggesting £12 for pre-ordered 16GB USB memory stick with all my photos, which will likely be 2000 or so! From every order I will give £5 to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, and hopefully we can give them the donation at the prize giving.

All I need you to do is fill in this brief survey below to collect details to enable me to order the right number of USB sticks. Given the volume you need to submit the survey by Saturday 21st July. Payment can be either via PayPal or bank transfer following completing the survey [Steve will email payment details].

The USB stick will have all photos up to the Friday. Any Friday photos will be sent via We Transfer to add to the USB stick at your leisure, so it is important you include your email address!

RS AERO 5s join the 50+ CLUB!
Last week the RS Aero 5 entry list for the Worlds made the big 50!

This is more than double the good RS Aero 5 fleets we saw last year at the Carnac Worlds and the Hayling UK Nationals!

The fleet will have a wide cross section of ages and experience with several sailors just 14 years old through to Grand Masters (65+). Seasoned eventers will join those less experienced and at their first major championship.

The categories are all well supported with 21 Youths (U19), 9 of which are Juniors (U16), 27 Ladies, 7 Masters (55+) 2 of which are Grand Masters (65+) and several small Males.

8 countries are representedin the fleet making for a fantastically international field!

The competition is likely to be tough at the front with the defending RS Aero World Champion, current UK National Champion, two Aerocup International Champions, a current UK Inland Champion, a Florida State Champion and an RS Feva World Champion!
Throw in a few new talents and several unknowns too and this title could go any number of different ways!

ENTRY LIST
*Any more entries should be submitted by the 24th July, before the late late fee becomes payable.

RS AERO WORLDS - VOLUNTEERS INVITED, PLEASE
This is your chance to make 203 new best friends from 16 countries!

We would love to hear from you if you would like to get involved and are happy to help with;

RIBS - Monday-Friday, drivers or assistants, let us know if you have a qualification. A great way to watch the racing close up.

REGISTRATION - A shift during Saturday and Sunday 09:00-18:00. Signing people in, handing out goody bags, flags, T-Shirts, measurement forms, etc...

MEASUREMENT - A shift during Saturday 14:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00. At any time we will be running 3-5 teams of 2 people to maintain a brutally efficient process. Both people familiar with the Class Rules and assistants who might be less familiar are sought.

TROLLEY TEAM - Collecting, stacking and returning trolleys at launch and recovery Mon-Fri. During the week we will operate an 'any trolley' policy, so you wont have to match them to a boat until Friday!

SCORERS - To tot up the informal Club/Country challenge points and Family team points daily for fun and interest and ultimately....prizes! It is a load of fun and I normally do it but this important role requires somebody's keen focus now that the entry list has gone all exponential on us. I can assist.

Please let me, Peter Barton, know at email; [email protected] if you are happy to help and play an important roll in the success of what is set to be an incredible event!

Thank you in advance!

RS AERO 7 - SPLIT FLEET
105 RS Aero 7s now entered!

As the overall entry was accelerating towards 200 at the end of last week the RS Aero 7 fleet hit a new milestone of its own at 100 RS Aero 7s! It was Toby Schofield of Felpham SC, UK, who kicked that World Cup ball firmly into the back of the net on Friday evening, well over a month before the Championship! Now the RS Aero 7s have 105>>>

As per the Notice of Race (5), any fleet with 80+ boats will be split into two flights with a qualification series followed by a finals series over the five day Championship. This is similar to major World Cup events in the Olympic Classes and through qualification the flights will be re-flighted daily.

The thought behind this revolves around racing being more enjoyable and likely fairer in a 40+ boat fleet relative to an 80+ boat fleet. In the larger fleet an emphasis on starts and traffic can have an overbearing influence and it would likely take much longer than our usual race target times to give sailors adequate opportunity to recover.

With the RS Aero 7 entry, as usual, approximately double the size of the RS Aero 5s and RS Aero 9s the split 7 fleet then provides four fleets in total of similar size. This allows start lines to be equal length and approximately the right length for everyone (improving on Carnac Worlds 2017) and without any delay whist the line length is reset (improving on Hayling UK Nationals 2017).

So nobody needs to be concerned at the prospect of 100+ RS Aeros on a start line!
A race with HALF that number will be much less daunting for those less experienced and excited to be part of this awesome major championship in our fresh young Class.

We still enjoy all the fun of the huge numbers of like minded RS Aero friends together ashore, with the Olympic facility of WPNSA and the RS Sailors Chillout Hub able to cope admirably!

RIG CHARTERS for the WORLDS

The Charter RS Aeros are fully sold out but anyone borrowing an RS Aero who needs to source a different rig size can charter them off RS Sailing.

The price for 'rig only' charters from RS is £100 to include sail, lower mast, numbers and letters. Probably new.

Please email me at [email protected] to request.

An all included pre-event Class organised coaching session will take place onshore in front of WPNSA at 14:00hrs on Sunday 5th August for about 1 hour with Sam Whaley, double RS Aero 7 UK National Champion, member of the British Sailing Team and all round nice guy.

Sam will take his International audience on a journey through the finities of achieving the max out of your RS Aero around the racecourse with some contemporary ideas on tuning and technique for maximum gain.

These sessions are invaluable, especially for visitors from remote RS Aero locations where sailors might not have the luxury of having a large group of RS Aeros to race and train against each week.

THE LARGEST RS EVENT OF ALL TIME
was I believe the 2014 RS Feva World Championship at Carnac, France, with a whopping 184 boats.
The largest RS adult class event ever was the RS200s when they achieved in the 160s a few years ago.

Just saying...

SAIL NUMBERS, NATIONAL LETTERS, RIG ID FLASHES
and NATIONAL FLAGS

At the upcoming World Championship we will all need to be sure that we have correctly installed sail numbers, national letters, national flags and rig identification colour flashes on our mainsails. This will be vital for ease of identification with 200 RS Aeros on the racecourse.

It is every sailors responsibility to ensure that their RS Aero is Class Rule legal for racing. Additionally the RS Aero World Champs has a Measurement process, helping to ensure Class Rule compliance. Sail additions is an easy area to slip up on. Please be sure in advance that they are all correct and save yourself last minute hassle by adding them correctly in advance of travelling to Weymouth.

National Flags on mainsails will be necessary for the World Championship. The National flags of each country will be available for sale at registration at Weymouth at an event rate of £5 each. They can easily be added at the event. International visitors sailing charter RS Aeros will be able to retain the backing paper and take their flag home for their own RS Aero afterwards!

Rig Identification Colour Flashes were added at the back of RS Aero sail windows as standard in early 2016. This helps both competitors and race officials easily identify different rigs at a quick glance when we share the same course. Earlier sails that do not yet have them can collect the appropriate coloured sticker at registration at Weymouth - no charge, courtesy of RS Sailing.

Numbers and Letters - summary points
- Starboard numbers go above port side numbers and starboard letters go above port side letters.
- Numbers, letters and national flags should be positioned on the sail as per the attached plan.
- National flags go on the port side and under the letters (a second flag on the starboard side too is optional and if added should be placed back to back with the port side). These flags will be available at event registration.

RS AERO 7 and RS AERO 9

- Numbers & letters should be a minimum of 300mm high
- Numbers, letters and flags need to be a minimum of 60mm apart, including on opposite sides and also minimum of 60mm from edge of sail..

RS AERO 5
- Numbers & letters should be a minimum of 230mm high
- Numbers and letters need to be a minimum of 45mm apart, including on opposite sides and also minimum of 45mm from edge of sail.
- Flags need to be a minimum of 60mm from the letters and from edge of sail.

TIPS
- New sails have faint pencil lines to use as a guide.
- With our Italic numbers please be sure that the gap is at least 60mm (45mm on RS Aero 5s) as the minimum spacing is above the horizontal due to the lean of italic numbers & letters. I suggest you go for 80mm gaps (65mm on RS Aero 5s) to be safe!

Sail Numbers - C.10.4 (a) (ii) & (iii)
Rig Identification Colour Flashes - C.10.4 (a) (iv)
National Letters - C.10.4 (a) (v)
National Flags - C.10.4 (b)

WORLDS ACCOMMODATION

Still need to book accom?

Check out the links on the Event Website for everything from hotel rooms to camp sites;

Martleaves Farm
Additionally for campers & campervans, I also recommend this lesser known farm campsite which is not on the above list to you, I stayed here a few years ago.

It is simple in a nice way with fantastic views over Chesil Beach and is perhaps the closest camping.
It is a working farm in a SSSI and they have alpacas.
One of their loos, not sure which one, is loo of the year 2018!
They seem to still have tent spaces available during our Champs.

RS Aero Worlds - Now Record breaking

The 2018 RS Aero Worlds at Weymouth has hit 114 entries and become the largest RS Aero Championship to date - and still with 3 months to go! This is going to be huge and the Class is still so young at barely 4 years old!!
Already the RS Aero 5 fleet is the largest ever with 28 entries, well ahead of last year's Worlds and UK Nationals. With many sailors still to enter how big will it become?

The RS Aero 9 fleet is also now the biggest ever. At the 2016 UK Nationals with light winds forecast all event the RS Aero 9 fleet doubled in size at registration, adding to the enjoyment of those keen for more sail. With three months to go this Worlds is already ahead by 1!

With ultimate entries likely to exceed 150 there is every chance the RS Aero 7 fleet (now at 59) could be split for the first time, with a qualification and finals series, that being triggered when the entries reach 80 in any fleet.

Youth participation is continually increasing in the class with great Youth training programmes like the Rooster UK Youth Team and incentives like the Sailing Raceboats RS Aero 5 Youth sponsored purchase package in Australia. An impressive 24 Youths (Under 19 ) are entered so far which is a healthy 21% of the total and steadily growing over time.

Ladies entries total 16 so far, split between the RS Aero 5 & 7 fleets. Ladies have frequently topped the rankings at the most competitive of RS Aero events and this year's colossal Worlds is likely to be no exception. Our Championship clothing sponsor Rooster have recently launched their new Rooster Ladies Range. Check it out, treat yourself and then pop your entries in, safe in the knowledge that you will be both comfortable and stylish on the race course in August.

The Masters category (55+) is going to be as hotly contested as ever in each of the three fleets with 28 experienced sailors registered to date. All the categories are getting tougher each year and this is no exception!

With such numbers we can, like last year's largest events, expect plenty of competition for the accolades of top Junior (Under 16), Apprentice Youth (Under 22) and Grand Master (65+) too.

*Ages as at 31 Dec 2018

96 entries now!
Which equals last year's World Championship entry already with 4 months to go!

There are a few Charters still available - but hurry if you are after one.

All three fleets are developing well which is really encouraging-
The RS Aero 5 fleet is already the largest fleet ever assembled at 23 boats and competition looks like it will be hotly contested with several new faces comprising both Youths and small adults.

The RS Aero 7s is, as ever, the largest with nearly 50 boats already, a colourful mix of nations and every likelihood of the interest of a split fleet Qualifier and Finals series when that fleet entry tips over 80 boats.

At 25 boats the RS Aero 9s are just one off their all time record of 26 when a light wind forecast at the 2016 Torbay Nationals doubled the fleet size!
