This was my first time sailing here and it was lake conditions. Finding the puffs on the race course was important, the first day the right and thus starboard pack seemed favored. Getting to them sometimes required painful port tack and I felt it was important to really foot and keep the RS Aero going in those port tack moments. A beautiful FL weekend with gators around also enticed motorboat wake all over the course to keep it going thru. Racing was close and sometimes came down to the final puff on the last short leg. Checking the blades for grass was a must.
In a 5min start I felt boats are too afraid to be above the line even at 2-3 minutes, to get an idea what clean air upwind is like, maybe check 1st glimpse of shift and never be caught late in lull trying to get up to the line.
Back on land, open bar, great dinner and the buzz of being in a large regatta made it a great weekend. See everyone April 15/16th for the last Florida event at Davis Island!
