Home >> >> How to mount a speedpuck to the RS Aero
Hi,
One year later, my below solution is definitely not a good one because of the ...rust :-/
Thanks to flyinggorilla and to his support, I've printed a new mount. I took the benefit of this project to buy a basic 3d printer.

Hi All, I have 3D printed a Velocitek Speedpuck mount for the RS Aero. Its 90 grams light, and shaped so that lines dont tangle easily. All 3D printing info is on my thingiverse page: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3903333 .

Dear All,
Thanks to this youtube video https://youtu.be/WWLj6XdDDLU , I've made a strong & cheap speedpuck bracket :-)

Guikitetri,
I recommend attaching the Speedpuck to the standard RS bracket.
Ideally the Speedpuck might just be fitted direct to it with the heavy duty 'velcro' that the SpeedPuck comes with (and safety leash just in case).

Hello guys!
Any other suggestion on how to mount the Velocitek Speedpuck , closer to the cockpit, where you can reach it easily to change modes?

Thank you all very the great feedback

For me it really is a training tool as I want to understand when I make trimming changes that make me go a bit faster.

Thanks!

I cover the speed readout with tape for racing and just use the lift / header readout. That makes it legal.

Having used it for a while, my personal belief is that it is a good training tool, but of marginal use while racing. During training, it can help refine what the boat should feel like when at full speed and sharpen your senses of when the boat is slow.

During racing, a TackTick compass is far more use.

I'd recommend that the class permit the use of GPS speed readout during racing. It will not create an uneven playing field and will certainly not create an "arms" race where everyone is forced to buy it. GPS speed readout simply is not that valuable during racing for a boat like an Aero.

So that makes it totally illegal for racing...

Here is a bracket I made. Very simple to mount on the bow and fully readable while sailing.

I think if you get the tactick mounting bracket from RS then the speed puck cradle should fit to that. Perhaps someone could confirm if they have done it? The literature on the Velocitek pages quote: 'The hole locations are compatible with the Velocitek Mast Mounting Bracket or any Tacktick Micro Compass bracket' Quite how legal it is is another question but ok for practising i guess. Does anyone have a picture of the Speed Puck bracket in place on the boat?

Hello

I am thinking about buying a speedpuck for my Aero and I was wondering what the best way is to mount a speedpuck to the Aero. The bracket included seems to mount the speedpuck flat on the deck so you cannot see the speed. Any ideas about this?

Thanks
