Home >> Technical >> Bow fitting eye - too small to allow security chain in dinghy park

Thanks for the suggestion.

Have now purchased a 9 m slim corrosion-proof secure wire, coated in plastic, that I will thread through daggerboard hole securing with padlock after wrapping around trolley/ trailer to dinghy compound chain.

Just an idea:
You take a cable. Crimp big eyes to each end. Feed the middle of the cable through the bow fitting eye like the halyard on the main.
Feed both eyes through the cable loop on the other side of the fitting eye and feed the padded chain through both eyes.

As a new owner I find it strange that the bow fitting eye is very small & wondered if there was a good reason for this? Straightaway it was quite difficult to thread a tie down using the bow eye to secure the boat onto the  trailer.

In the dinghy park where security could be an issue, I had intended using a padded chain and lock to secure my Aero, trolley and trailer to the chain which is placed under all the dinghies to allow a tie down point. However I will be struggling to find a secure method using the bow take off point. Can anyone recommend a system to deter potential theft of my craft/ trolley/ trailer?
