The mast step is an oval in order to automatically adjust the mast rake aft (upwind) and forward (downwind). Laser does the same.

It's correct - just the way it has been designed. Don't worry - just enjoy your new boat :-)

Hi,

My new (used) RS Aero 7 mast seems very loose in the mast step hole - there is a fair bit of movement back and forth - is this normal? I have a brand new 9 lower mast and this has the same movement so assume it's correct but doesn't seem right.

You can see the amount of movement from the pictures, when pushed forward or back there is a reasonably large gap between mast and edge so it can rock back and forth - is there a part missing from the mast step hole so the mast is a more secure fit or is it correct as is?

Thanks,

Jonathan
