So - the problem was basically that the bolt were stripping out ot the plastic fitting at the bottom of the cam cleat stack (circled in the picture) - I replaced this with a plastic part from the wedge set which has hexagonal holes for lock nuts - replaced the bolts with longer ones, added some M5 lock nuts and tightened it all up - much better solution than the original metal into plastic set up

We've had a different problem with the kicker swivel cleat - it failed under load! We replaced it and it failed again! The load just pulled the bolts from the plastic backing plate - anyone else seen this?

Hello Craig, I have a 2015 boat and I replaced the kicker cleat on it when it began slipping.  I put the slipping down to general wear.  I replaced the cleat with a metal Harken one and have not had any slipping problems since.  I use 4mm Excel Control for the kicker line and I tapered it by removing the core.  The coreless bit doesn't ever reach the cleat.

I had kicker 2'ry slip the cam cleat on my 1st boat.

Then the cause was the rope I was using, a 4 mm polyester covered SK 78 Dyneema cored rope that could flatten in the jaws.

I changed the rope to 5 mm Kingfisher / Gottifredi Maffioli Evolution Race from RS Parts Store and the same as used on the Olympics Trials boats.  Tapered the rope to put the taper point over the deck, and no further problems.

Have just taken delivery of a new Aero.  This has a 4mm Evo Breeze 2'ry, and it jumps the cleat under excess load, even when pulled firmly down.

Will be changing as soon as RS have stock.

This happens with mine and I find it is because I have not dropped the rope down into the jaws far enough and it bounces out again. So long as you are not pulling the rope through so far as to have the thin tapered bit in the jaws, it's likely just the thicker bit of rope not dropped far enough down. I find the angle a bit difficult to drop it down far enough some times, but once aware of the problem I just make sure I check before letting it go, to sail on and it bounces out with a bit of a bang!

Occasionally my kicker rope slips through the cleat, particulalry when trying to pull it on under a lot of tension. I have tried replacing the kicker cleat block and it happened again quite quickly. I use the standard Rooster tapered kicker control line.

Has anyone else had this issue and any tips on how to resolve it?

Thanks,
Craig
