Home >> Transport & Storage >> Stacking RS Aeros on a road trailer
Hi fellow Scottish Aero sailors
I don't have advice on stacking for you but just wanted to say hello and welcome to the class.
I'm based at ELYC in North Berwick where we have a small fleet of 6 Aero regulars. We held the 2019 Nationals with 80 boats just a few weeks ago.
I also sail on the Northern UK Aero traveller circuit, where the socials are as important as the sailing, at excellent venues such as here at North Berwick, Yorkshire Dales SC high in the moors, Ullswater in the Lakes and Filey on the Yorkshire coast, as well as others many and varied!

Thanks for all the help with stacking the boats. The photos are really useful. As for Port Edgar, we sail a yacht there and did sail Lasers until we moved for more competition to Dalgety Bay. It’s a great place for dinghy sailing and I am sure more Aeros May appear soon.

I sail my Aero at Newburgh SC, I’m the only Aero and likely to stay that way. Great club and good handicap racing. I think there is an Aero at Perth as I’ve seen the sail a couple of times this year when driving past. I also dinghy cruise from Dundee and have not seen any Aeros in the Tay. A few Fife sailers I know are interested in an Aero and are probably going to have a quick go in mine shortly to make up their minds. So there could be a small localish fleet. I intend to use the centre at Lochore to do some self-training once I get my roof rack arrangements better sorted. I think there is a small fleet at North Berwick, but that’s quite a drive. I hadn’t thought about Port Edgar, must look it up.

Here are a few photos of my setup. I remove the main and kicker blocks. I put some memory foam over the pads in the white bags, plus some at the bow and transom. I have mast-up covers so I put those in the main hull space - a blanket would work instead. I put memory foam over the top hull's gunwales so that the second trailer can be fitted upside down. It sits snugly against the memory foam on the transom of the hull below. It's tricky to describe but hopefully the photos are useful. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMY9sFZXeCpwKTiwtA https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMZAVrYsEkRbKCW2vQ https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMY79PIrHf4RZpeDEA https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMZBp33tQbg4nXJrcg https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMY8-WcYO1XAMSJw5w https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMZEGo98cFd57pCLHA https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAixWZiHw0hmMZIdUgRqCPoTX01iw

The rigging manual here:-

shows where you need padding (page 35).

Hi Issy, If your 2 Aeros have the tyvek delivery covers, they have padding in the right places to stack. Alternatively I got my Aero up to Fife on my roof bars, so you could trailer 1 and rack the other - it’s easy to do. The kicker fairlead & cleat should slide out, but be aware it can be quite stiff. Mine is quite hard to get out, which is why I use my rack. For extra padding I gaffer tape some 20mm thick memory foam over the control line cleats for outhaul & downhaul. Enjoy your new Aeros, I’ve certainly been enjoying mine !

Here in Florida I've stacked three Aeros on my trailer without any problems. Remove the vang cleat on the deck. If you have covers put them on.I take a yoga mat or piece of carpet and place it over the the deck where the vang cleat was and any other cleats and then I use a few swimming pool foam noodles, this being Florida, and place them across the boat wherever the next boat will rest and then add the next boat. I usually secure the lowest boat to the trailer, then add the extra hulls and use some ratcheting straps over the top boat and down to the trailer. Use a bow line to the trailer for each boat and run a piece of line through all the gudgeons and secure it to prevent the boats from slipping backward. We break down our dollies and put them in our SUV's but I'm sure you can figure out how to strap your dollies on top of the boats. Just use plenty of padding. Stacking Aeros works well.

Hi, just bought an Aero and collecting it from the south coast for transport to Scotland. Feeling left out, my husband has also just bought one from the south coast too.! We have one road base and want to stack them to get them home hopefully without damage. I see that they can be stacked 3 high on a road base so I am looking for advice on where to put padding, how thick the padding needs to he, what deck fittings I need to remove on the lower boat so they don’t scratch or damage the hull of the top boat and the best way to tie them down. Also how do you put the top boat’s trolley on. Any advice much appreciated. We are transporting from Hampshire to Dalgety Bay , near Edinburgh
