TopTip2021 #90 - The New Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-24 - by David Battye, GBR
David Battye, National Judge and RS Aero UK Class Juror, explains the changes in the new Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-24 live and interactive on Zoom.
In addition, we go on to discuss the reasoning behind the RS Aero Class' move away from the frequent relaxation of RRS31 'Touching a Mark' in our SIs.
We finish with a key question; Q. When sailing upwind, how does a heading wind shift effect a starboard tacker's obligations under RRS16.1 and the amended RRS16.2 ? (For example, when sailing on a lake with large and frequent wind shifts)
For those unable to tune in live we recorded the presentation, making it available to view later here; https://youtu.be/Wv7WTS8sPUg?t=43
So far in this series we have seen representation joining in from the UK, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, USA, Australia, Japan, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Scotland, Netherlands, Jersey and the Isle of Man and many more viewing the recording later.
This was the last in this seasons series of Zoom training as Easter is here and we look forward to emeging from lockdown and returning to racing in some nice early season conditions. Many thanks to our coaches and experts, George Cousins and David Battye, who provided some excellent content, and to Ben Rolfe and Childcare Marketing for their assistance with setting up the Zoom calls and recordings.
