Hi Axel and Robert

Well spotted.  In fact this is an error which has now been corrected.   "speed" of any type  cannot be displayed on any device, including a watch, while racing.

Thanks for your help
David

Hello Axel,

I take "speed" to mean "Speed over the Ground" as measured by GPS for instance and "boat speed" to mean "Speed over the Water" as measured by a yacht's hull sensor for instance.  In the absence of tide these two measurements could be nearly identical.

All the best
Robert

Moved to a seperate post for Axel (Screen name: Rubberduck);

Hi,

reading the new rules I don’t get the difference of “speed” and "boat speed".

C.5.1 (b) “One compass displaying true heading and/or speed (…) Neither this device or the timing device (a) may provide any information relating to the performance of the boat, boat speed, (…)”

Displaying the speed is allowed in the first sentence but restricted in the second part?
I’m not a native English speaker so this might cause the confusion.
Can someone please explain?

Thanks
Axel
