Home >> Class Rules - Queries & Suggestions >> Plastic tube on the vang tail
Hi Robin,
A plastic tube is not included in the list of permitted modifications in C.6.1.3 so it is not permitted, sorry.

It is simple to make the rope tail into the handle of various designs. Alternatively you could use a thicker rope, I use 5mm (tapered to 3mm).
It is also good (for both muscles and equipment) to try to use the mainsheet to assist in tensioning the vang with your tiller (rear) hand when pulling the vang hard upwind as it has more leverage. Tighten the mainsheet momentarily with your tiller hand and then simply take the slack out of the vang with your front hand.

I suspect this is not allowed but would like to check if, instead of tying all those overhand knots in the vang control line after it exits the jammer, is it permissable to tie a loop with a bowline to include a small, say 100mm, bit of plastic tubing to act as a hand hold?
