I would be thinking about:
- Sail flatter
- Don't over-sheet
- Don't forget to address the downhaul after the vang to maintain sail shape the length of the mast - experiment between the two; it will vary wind-strength to wind-strength = no substitute for time on the water!
- minimise rudder use
- generate speed out of the turn
- in winds c. 3 - 5 knots, perhaps loosen the outhaul
- Batten tension - Hooking? Flopping? Lack of power at the top of the sail

I am very fortunate to have Noah Rees at my club so I just copy and follow him. I'm sure Lymington sailors benefit from Peter in the same way. It certainly helps to have top sailors racing regularly with you.
But a question. Is the Laser sailor Olympic standard or just club standard?

Any tips for sailing to weather .
Sailing on fresh water in conditions 5to 20knts with a 9 rig
Our best laser sailor is beating me each time ? Then I catch him and pass them down wind ... IRL 1321. I should be ahead of them all the time.
