RS Aero World Championships - Malcesine, Garda, Italy

   RS Aero World Championship
   FV Malcesine, Lake Garda, Italy
   31 July - 6 August 2021
*ONLINE ENTRY to open in MAY*
*Charter RS Aeros now released* - link below
12 April - The Italian national authority, FIV, have recently given their approval for the event.
23 April - E.U. Set to Let Vaccinated U.S. Tourists Visit This Summer;
26 April - 15 Italian regions have covid restrictions eased to 'yellow' categorisation. These include Veneto and Lombardy, that host our major Italian events this year, the World Championship at Malcesine on Lake Garda and the International Regatta at Maccagno on Lake Maggiore.
For European countries attending national sporting competitions in Italy a covid test within 48 hours of border entry is enough and you do not need 5 day quarantine on entering Italy. I understand that from May a double vaccination is enough, instead of the pre-test (TBC). Restaurants and Bars in Italy are now able to serve people at outdoor tables!
This provides a positive step in the progressive easing of restrictions towards achieving successful events for both local sailors and international visitors. We can hope for more information and the further easing of restrictions over the next few weeks.
Naturally sailors need to consider any further limitations from their home country or any transit countries.
Here is the link from the Italian sailing national authority, FIV, regarding international travel into Italy for national sporting events;
Click above Coronavirus 19 with the airplane (ulteriore link utile per gli stranieri) and you come to a page for travellers. There on your right you click on List of regions (List C covers Europe, List D includes AUS,NZL,JPN. Unlisted confirmed individually, but with vaccinations we can expect a positive outcome). On those pages you have Exemptions for entries for national sporting competitions. It confirms that a test is now enough, and you do not need 5 day quarantine on entering Italy. You need to be a member of your national sailing association and be able to show your entry to the event. I understand that from May a double vaccination is enough, instead of the pre-test (TBC).
6 May - From 15 May, Green pass in Italy ending quarantine for visitors (in addition to existing sporting event exemptions)
In 2021 we return to Fraglia Vela Malcesine on Lake Garda for our RS Aero World Championship, after our fantastic European Championship here in 2019.
Lake Garda is one of Europe's premier meccas of sail sports, situated in the wonderful Italian Lakes with thermal breezes, excellent weather, incredible views and Italian cuisine! Check out the movies, photos and reports from our previous visits for the 2016 & 2017 RS Aerocups and the 2019 RS Aero Europeans at Malcesine.
Championship racing will be 5 days, Monday 2nd - Friday 6th. The weekend will be for registration, relaxation, practice and acclimatisation! We will plan one or two early starts during the week, racing in the morning breeze descending from the mountains. This will add variety to the racing and allow for a part lay day mid week, if we are finished by late morning. Time for touristing, partners & families!
Daily Pasta Parties will be included after racing, with Daily Awards and Top-Tips from the day’s leaders in each fleet, whilst relaxing with friends at FV Malcesine’s patio bar looking across the lake to the towering cliffs opposite - this is not to be missed!
In addition to the Grand Opening Ceremony and final Closing Ceremony, FV Malcesine will lay on a mid week Championship Dinner from their exquisite premises.
Malcesine, Lake Garda
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, and Malcesine lies on the eastern shore towards the narrow and mountainous northern end, often compared to a fiord. Fraglia Vela Malcesine is situated on the doorstep of paradise, racing in the thermal breezes on the infamous fresh waters of Lake Garda, underneath the dramatic mountainous backdrop. The stylish clubhouse, space and easy launching, all serve to provide a perfectly memorable stay
The recommended area is Campagnola just to the south of the FVM Clubhouse. A variety of hotels and camping are available.
HOTELS: Click HERE for a good link to find nice hotels by the lake in the area. We suggest hotels in Campagnola or heading towards Malcesine from Campagnola. Look at the map on that site.
Then we can all be close for meeting up.
The recommended hotel is Hotel Piccolo which is the closest at just 500m south of the club and overlooking the lake, but it fills up early.
CAMPING: There are several camp sites just to the south. One is Camping Claudia, close to the lake and just 1km from the Club.
Charter RS Aeros -
RS Sailing are offering a fleet of charter RS Aeros. The price will be 650 Euros and they can be booked via RS' new dedicated website HERE.
Please take time to read the 'Charter Booking & Information' and 'Charter Boat FAQ' in the drop down menu there and be sure to book whilst availability lasts.
