Netherlands Winter Training
Zeilschool Aalsmeer, Amsterdam
6 November, 18 December, 12 & 26 February
The Netherlands RS Aero Winter Training kicked off last weekend at Aalsmeer, near Amsterdam.
Everyone is welcome.
RS Aeros are available for charter and there are top coaches...
The focus of the first session was 'Boat Speed'.
Kate Sargent reports from the first training day on 6th November;
'This was the first of four RS Netherlands Class Association training days for the Winter 2016/17 season, which have been set up to develop the Dutch sailors for a great racing program that will be installed next year.
The Sunday training session saw nice conditions with winds of 6-10 knots, and the sun came out for the duration that we were on the water. We had, in total 5 RS Aeros and ran the session with a focus on sail settings, controls and boat speed. In addition, we were lucky to have coaching from the Dutch 470 Olympic sailor (Afrodite Zegers - who finished 4th in the 2016 Olympics in Rio), who could coach alongside me to make the coaching even more solid. The day started with a short on the shore briefing, followed by tips on the water to each individual, which was finished in some short races. There was then a debrief and discussion on the session, and a buffet lunch put on by the sailing club.
Everyone seemed to take something away from the session, and improved on their sail settings. They admitted that it is difficult when they are not sailing against other RS Aeros at they home clubs, and are keen to continue training through the winter! Quote of the day "the RS Aero should be handled gently...like you should handle your woman..." haha!'
