Hi Andy,
You can't ask about battens in a vang thread!

Just take the slack out. Remove creases. 'Just tight, but not taught'.
Maybe go a touch tighter. Downhaul then controls the depth at the batten.

Sam Whaley also mentioned them in his RS Aero Tips blog.

Thanks Pete. Any advice on batten tension?

Hi Andy,
Welcome to the RS Aero fleet!

Here is a good guide from Michael O'Brien in Seattle; http://aeronautic.info/posts/2015/vang.html

With the sail hoisted the primaries should just go slack when the control line is fully released. Move the bowlines small amounts to achieve this. That way you should not run out of vang/kicker range when fully pulled on, whist also being able to ease enough for those light wind runs too.

Note that the boom is a little higher on the 5 rig, but if you get it 'just slack' for that you can have enough range for all three rigs.

Just got my boat, one of three arriving at Rutland last weekend. Looks like we have some traction. The vang has not been set up properly, with very little travel and sticking. Have worked out the becket block is on upside down which will sort out the sticking. But will have to re do the whole thing to get the travel right. What should the max length be for the vang i.e. Run setting, so I can then get enough on upwind. Otherwise boat appears to be a weapon in marginal planning conditions.
